Eryn’s Midsummer Fairytale Dress

Zo ergens begin juni was er opeens wat ‘rumoer’ in de facebookgroep van de testers van de Eryn’s garden party dress, de leuke jurk die ik vorig jaar mee testte en goedkeurde 😉 (zie hier en hier) Bleek dat Ann, de dame achter de blog Lieveke en Zus, en ontwerpster van deze patronen, op een nieuw patronenkindeke aan het broeden was 🙂 En vroeg of wij ook haar nieuwe patroon wilden testen. Ondanks een lichtelijk tijdgebrek lukte het me niet om eraan te weerstaan, en daar ben ik best blij om, want de test leverde Sia weer een heel tof en apart jurkje op!

Ann houdt deze zomer op haar eigen blog een soort blogtour, waarin dit patroon op verschillende manieren aan bod komt, en deze keer gaat het over het onderwerp ‘hacken‘. Als in ‘een patroon hacken‘ dus 🙂 Want zonder het zelf helemaal door te hebben, is dit jurkje eigenlijk een soort ‘hack’ geworden. Raden jullie hoe dat dan precies zit?

Inderdaad, het is een beetje (veel) te kort geworden… Mijn dametje moest een maat 6 jaar hebben, maar zit aan de bovengrens van de lengte daarvan, en dit was dus bovendien, zoals gezegd, een testjurk. En uit de test bleek dat het rokgedeelte nogal aan de korte kant was. In het uiteindelijke patroon is het rokdeel een goeie 6cm langer. Maar dat bewijst natuurlijk meteen dat als je een soort jurktuniek wilt, je dat heel eenvoudig kan doen door het rokgedeelte flink in te korten 🙂 Et voilà, daar heb je dus een kleine patroonhack 😉 Zo zie je maar, een patroon hacken is dus in feite niks in z’n eigen, al kan het natuurlijk ook wel een pak ingenieuzer dan dit 😉

De jurk valt los rond het bovenlichaam, ideaal voor de zomer. Ik maakte ‘m in double gauze van Nani Iro, in kleuren die mij compleet niet zouden staan, maar die perfect zijn voor mijn blonde dochter, nog meer nu ze zo een schoon bruin velleke heeft (en ja, wij smeren dat kind in met factor 50). Ik vond de V-hals het leukste, eens iets anders, en die strook in het midden, wat volgens mij een van de bepalende karakteristieken is van dit nieuwe patroon, nodigt echt uit om frullekes toe te voegen, zoals deze paspel. Wat was ik blij dat ik de perfecte kleur paspel had liggen zeg! Ik doorstikte nog met zilveren draad, om de prachtige zilveren accenten uit de stof wat terug te laten komen. Ik ben er tevreden over, al zeg ik het zelf 🙂

Ik had nog nooit zo een splitje gemaakt, en had daar een klein stress’ke voor, en zeker ook voor die lusjes erbij. Maar dat was voor niks nodig, want was echt heel makkelijk! En zo mooi, ik ben daar echt blij mee! Weer iets bijgeleerd, dat vind ik altijd tof als ik na het maken van een patroon kan zeggen dat ik wat nieuws heb geleerd.

Voor de foto’s trokken we naar DC centrum op uitstap. ’t is te zeggen, We gingen naar daar en ze mocht het kleedje aandoen en ik zou mijn kodak meenemen. Goed dat dit plekje vlakbij de metro-uitgang is en dat ik meteen foto’s nam, want nog geen 20 minuten later was het ondergesmost 🙂 Voor het poseren geeft ze zich tegenwoordig helemaal, al levert dat vooral vreselijke grimassen en rare modellenposes op, wat anderzijds ook wel grappig is… Maar gelukkig hielden we er ook een paar goeie foto’s aan over 🙂

Somewhere around the beginning of June there was some ‘movement’ in the sleeping facebookgroup of testers of the Eryn’s Garden Party dress, that nice dress that I tested last year before its release. You can see my 2 versions of it here and here. Turned out that Ann, the lady behind the blog Lieveke & Zus (which literally means ‘Sweetie and Sister’), was working on a new pattern baby 😉 And she asked if the former testers wanted to test again. Although I had some time constraints, I just couldn’t resist, and in the end I am happy with that, because this test provided Sia with another pretty dress! 

Ann is hosting a blogtour on her blog this summer, about this pattern, mainly to show the possibilities it has. This week she wanted to talk about ‘hacking’ the pattern. This dress turned out, even without intending it to, to be some sort of hack. Can you guess how that is? 

Yes indeed, it turned out to be too short… The dress is supposed to be longer, but this particular dress is not wearable without leggings underneath, if we want to be a little civilized 😉 My little lady is wearing size 6, but is on the top of the length of that size, and this was a test vers. During the testing, it became clear the skirt had to be longer. Ann added about 6 cm to it, so the final version as you can buy it now, is longer. So these 2 things together made me ending up with more a tunic than a dress. Not on purpose, but actually I found it equally nice 🙂 And it proves that by just shortening the skirt, you already have some sort of hack of this pattern! No complicated ideas necessary! 

The dress is loose fitting around the upper body, which is ideal for summer. I made it in a double gauze by Nani Iro that I purchased at Michael Levine Fabrics. The colors were absolutely not my cup of tea, but are just perfect for my blond daughter, even more so now that she has a sweet tan (and yes, I do use sunscreen with spf 50!). I preferred the V-shaped neckline, it looks just a little different. The fabric fold in the middle of the front, one of the determining characteristics of the pattern, really invites you to play with embellishments such as piping, but I can imagine so much more! I was thrilled to find the perfect matching colored piping in my stash. I topstitched with a silver thread, to repeat the silver accents in the fabric itself. I am happy with the result 🙂 

I never before made a slit in the back like this, and was a little stressed to do that, but that was completely unnecessary, because it was rather easy to do, especially with the explanation. It really looks so nice! I always like it when I make a pattern and learn something new by doing it! 

For these pictures we went to DC, or to be more precise: we went to DC and she got to wear the skirt so I could take pictures. Luckily this exact spot was right next to the metro entrance, because not even 20 minutes later it was almost ruined with something she spilled on it… To pose she gives the best of herself lately, although that mainly gives me weird faces and poses instead of nice pictures… Which is also fun in a way 🙂 But luckily I ended up with some nice pictures too 🙂

Geneva Cardigan part 2

Jullie konden het in mijn vorige bericht al lezen, dat er een nieuw patroontje is in de Coffee+Thread familie. En dat wij daar heel blij mee zijn! Ik maakte voor de patroontest een tweede cardigan voor Rosanne, in een lang gekoesterd stofje van Finch Fabrics. Een stofje met paardjes op een carrousel, daarvan wist ik dat ik ermee zou scoren bij de dochter(s) 🙂

Ik kocht eigenlijk maar een klein stukje van deze stof, ik denk niet eens een meter, maar kreeg de cardigan er zonder probleem uit en heb zelfs nog een beetje over. Ik denk niet dat dit stofje nog ergens te krijgen is, maar er is gelukkig nog wel wat keuze aan andere Finch Fabrics 🙂

Enige dat een beetje een doorn in m’n oog is, is de knipfout die ik maakte voor het voorpand. Ik was nochtans zeker dat ik het goed had gedaan, want ik had rekening gehouden met de breedte van het knopenpat. Helaas was ik eventjes uit het oog verloren dat de voorpanden overlappen… Waardoor ik nu dus met twee pony’s naast mekaar zit, waarvan er eentje maar een halve poep heeft als de cardigan dicht is. Ach ja…

Deze versie past misschien niet bij even veel dan de vorige, maar toch bij meer dan genoeg en zeker bij effen broekjes/shortjes/rokjes. En de dochter trekt zich dat niet aan, want vandaag wilde ze het per se dragen boven een kleedje met een heel drukke print waarvan de kleuren totaal niet matchten 😉 Zolang zij maar gelukkig is he 😉

Ondanks dat het een iets dunner stofje was, ging het naaien hier even vlot als bij de vorige versie. Ik kopieerde voor deze versie ook de afwerking van een van de medetesters, Meg (foto hieronder, hier terug te vinden op IG). In plaats van enkel de randen met de overlock af te werken, werkte zij ze af met een biais aan de binnenzijde, en dus niet enkel aan de neklijn. Wat een prachtig en professioneel resultaat! Dat wilde ik ook wel eens proberen!

Verder denk ik niet dat ik nog iets kan toevoegen aan wat ik in mijn vorige bericht al schreef. Ik ben en blijf fan van dit patroon!

You could already read in my previous blogpost that there is a new member in the Coffee+Thread pattern family. And that we are very pleased with that new baby! I made Rosanne a second cardigan for the pattern test, in a long cherished fabric from Finch Fabrics. A fabric with horses on a carrousel, I just knew I was going to score with that! I had bought only a little piece, not even a full yard, but could easily get the whole cardigan out of it, and even have some left. I don’t think this particular fabric is still for sale somewhere, but luckily there is quite some choice left from this kind of fabrics at Finch Fabrics themselves. For Americans who would be reading this, some of the finch fabric prints can be found at Eldflugabyelisa! Worth checking out!

The only thing that caused me some irritation in this project, was the cutting mistake I made for the front. Even though I did think about the folding line for the button placket, I forgot the 2 plackets are overlapping each other. So I ended up having 2 ponies right next to each other, with one of them having its butt cut off by the other 😉 But oh well… It is what it is 😉

This version might not be as easy to combine with all her clothing, but still with more than enough, especially with solid bottoms. And even then, she will not really care. Today she wanted to wear it together with a dress with a very busy print and completely non-matching colors. As long as she is happy… 😉

Even though the fabric was a little lighter than the previous one, the sewing went as smooth as the first version. I also copied the bias finishing from one of my fellow testers, Meg, who you can follow on IG. She did not only finish the collar and neckline with bias, but also the front panels and the hem. That looked soooo professional and clean, and I just needed to give it a try as well. The result made me really happy too!

Besides that I don’t think I have anything else I can add to what I already wrote in my previous post. I just am really in love with the pattern 🙂

Geneva Cardigan release! – Coffee + Thread

There’s a new pattern in town!! En wat voor eentje! Olga van Coffee+Thread heeft het toch maar weer mooi voor mekaar gekregen, deze Geneva Cardigan!

Toen ik de oproep voor testers zag, twijfelde ik geen moment aan het patroon zelf, want wat een beauty en ook oh zo handig als vestje in de kleerkast van de kids. Maar ik twijfelde wel een beetje omdat het eruit zag als iets moeilijks, en ik niet zeker was of ik dus wel geschikt zou zijn om mee te testen. Ik schreef me echter toch in en was, naast lichtjes gestresseerd, toch ook vooral heel blij en vereerd om nog een keertje mee te mogen doen! En wat was ik verkeerd over deze cardigan, want dat is dus eigenlijk helemaal niet moeilijk!!! Natuurlijk zullen jullie denken: ‘dat zegt die altijd’. Maar het is precies altijd echt waar! 😉 Ik zou dat natuurlijk niet allemaal zelf hebben uitgevonden, ik had echt de handleiding wel nodig. Maar die gidst je er helemaal door alsof het peanuts is! En en passant heb ik ineens ook weer veel bijgeleerd, zoals de biais afwerking van de kraag en binnenkant, in 1 beweging de hele cardigan omzomen van onderkant tot neklijn en knopenpat, … En voor je het weet heb je dus op een avond ineens een hele cardigan ineen genaaid…

Dit is mijn eerste testversie, in een gewone donkerblauwe sweaterstof. Het is een patroon bedoeld voor middenzware tot zware rekbare stoffen, zoals sweaterstof dus. Maar mijn 2e testversie was er eentje in een gewone stevige tricot, en dat ging ook perfect. Voor het onderkraagje en de zakjes gebruikte ik een dun koningsblauw tricot restje. Hoewel dat niet mijn bedoeling was, ziet het kraagje eruit alsof het een soort paspel randje heeft en dat vind ik eigenlijk wel heel mooi 🙂

Ik vond in het begin dat het zo een beetje aan de saaie kant was, zo effen en wat donkerder, maar daar ben ik intussen helemaal van teruggekomen. Op een week tijd heeft Rosanne dit al zoveel gedragen, en het past bij alles! Eigenlijk zou je het kunnen beschouwen als een soort tussenseizoensjasje. Met een broche erop, of eender wat, kan je het ook perfect ‘pimpen’.

Belangrijk is wel dat dit dus een testversie is! Het patroon is doorheen de testfase nog wat veranderd. Het heeft nu bijvoorbeeld wat meer ruimte aan de buik in de kleinere maatjes zoals deze, opdat de peuterbuikjes genoeg plek hebben 😉 Het werd ook wat langer en de zakjes zijn nog wat groter gemaakt. Het is dus nog perfecter geworden dan het al was 😉

Ik moet zeggen dat ik eigenlijk lang niet altijd zoveel voldoening heb van mijn naaiprojectjes als deze keer. Ik was echt trots op het resultaat en vooral ook omdat het een kledingstuk is dat echt veel gedragen gaat worden. Wat met vele jurkjes niet altijd het geval is, terwijl je daar toch ook best wat tijd in steekt. Enfin, het is allemaal smaak, maar ik ben echt zot content van dit patroon! En dat zeg ik niet omdat ik mee mocht testen en me verplicht voel om dat te zeggen, maar omdat ik dat echt heeeeeeeel erg meen!

Ik toon jullie heel gauw mijn tweede testversie, en binnen twee weken neem ik deel aan de blogtour met een exemplaar voor Sia in de finale versie, als alles goed gaat met mijn timing en organisatie  😉  Stay tuned 😉

There’s a new pattern in town!! And what a beauty it is, this new Geneva Cardigan designed by Olga from Coffee+Thread!

When I saw the call for testers, I had no doubts whatsoever about the pattern and its possibilities, but I did doubt my own skills and whether I would be a good tester for it. It just looked like something difficult to sew, although I can’t exactly explain why. In the end I did apply, and was lucky enough to be selected. And oh boy, how wrong I was about the skill level needed for this pattern! Because in fact this is a rather easy sewing project! Ok, I know you’ll think I say that everytime again, but it is actually true too 😉 I did need the instructions to make it, because I couldn’t have figured it out myself, but the instructions are so easy to follow, that it all goes so smooth! And in the meantime I learnt some new techniques as well, like the bias finishing of the collar, the hemming of he whole cardigan in one move, … Before you know it you have a whole new cardigan after an evening of sewing!

The pictures show my first test version, in a solid dark blue sweat jersey. The pattern is meant for mid to heavyweight jersey fabrics, so this as ideal. My second test version is made in a steady, lighter jersey and that went perfectly as well. I used a thin blue jersey as undercollar and for the pockets, and that gives a nice contrast as well. Although I didn’t mean it like that, the collar looks like I used some kind of piping, which I actually like 😉

In the beginning I thought this solid version was rather dull, but I definitely changed my mind about that! The last week Rosanne has been wearing it constantly and it looks great on everything. I think you can look at it like a sort of jacket for in between seasons. And you can easily pimp it with a broche or anything alike.

Bear in mind that this is a test version! The pattern did change a bit during testing. There is for instance a bit more room for the toddler bellies in the smaller sizes, there has been some length added, and the pockets were made a bit bigger as well. So it has become even more perfect than it was 😉

I must say this was definitely a very fulfilling project. I was really proud of the result and am even more happy with the fact that this is something she will actually wear a lot, which isn’t always the case for the dresses I make, although that also takes quite some time to sew. Of course it’s all a matter of taste, but I can’t say anything else than that I really love this pattern. I don’t say that because I feel like I have to because I got to test it, I really mean it too!

Soon I will show you my second test version, and in a little less than 2 weeks there will be a blogtour for the Geneva Cardigan, in which I will show you a version made with the final pattern for Sia, if all goes well with my timing and organisation 😉 Stay tuned!

Polina dress release + give-away!

Als een van de laatste testers mag ik jullie vandaag ook mijn twee Polina jurken tonen. Ik durf te denken dat de Polina jurk, de nieuwste telg in de Coffee+Thread familie,  al geen onbekende meer is voor diegenen die wel eens regelmatig blogs lezen of in naaigroepjes op facebook rondhangen. Ik was bij de gelukkigen om het patroon mee te mogen testen, een leuke en uitdagende bezigheid, waarbij je eigenlijk samen als testgroep er mee voor kan zorgen dat een patroontje de perfecte pasvorm en instructies krijgt. Ik testte al eens een patroontje van Olga, de getalenteerde ontwerpster van Coffee+Thread patronen, namelijk de Wild & Free Lounge Pants. Voor de test van haar twee daaropvolgende patronen, de Ania Tunic en de Ila jurk, kon ik me niet opgeven wegens naaimachine- en tijdgebrek. Maar voor deze twijfelde ik niet. De eerste tekeningen overtuigden me al helemaal, want wat een prachtige, dromerige, romantische, meisjesachtige jurk is dit! Goed nieuws trouwens voor diegenen onder jullie die Engelstalige patronen wat moeilijk vinden: Olga is van plan haar patronen naar het Nederlands te laten vertalen! Joehoeeeee!!

Het patroon komt met verschillende opties: een cirkelrok of rimpelrok, lange froezels (‘ruffles‘ of ‘frills‘) of cirkelvormige froezels rond de hals, of gewoon helemaal geen froezels, een uitlopend striklint of een recht striklint, en een afwerking met of zonder voering. De rug sluit met een knopenpat. Geen gedoe met blinde ritsen dus 😉

Ikzelf maakte de versie met cirkelrok en lange froezels, in maat 3 jaar en 5 jaar. Ik gebruikte de uitlopende linten, wat ik een tof detail vind. En geen voering, ideaal voor de warme zomers hier in Washington. Ga zeker een kijkje nemen bij het overzicht van de andere testers, dat je hier vind. Onderaan kan je doorklikken naar de andere blogs en IG-accounts van de testers. Daaronder een indrukwekkende lijst van Nederlandstalige dames: When circle meets line,  Wensje, Wondermirakel, hutsepruts, mijnlevenmet4helden, flaflinko, zowiezohandmade, lielebeesje, Naaisgerief, Zijkant, Stokstaartje, plus2is5, en ik hoop dat ik niemand vergeet! En dan nog de internationale testers, ook een bezoekje waard: Annas Heirloom Boutique , Stitched Together, Kaleidothought, Made by Toya, Lille Gumma, Just Add Fabric, Stitched by Crystal , Sew Shelly Sew, Fairies, Bubbles and Co blog, Entre Hilos , Neva Couture blog, Green Doodle. Allemaal prachtcreaties, met als mijn absolute toppertje die van Annas Heirloom Boutique. Een ongelooflijk mooi upcycling project!  Ik vind het altijd leuk om veel verschillende versies van een patroontje te zien, en telkens vast te stellen hoe anders het er kan uitzien. Zo was ik aanvankelijk net iets minder gewonnen voor de cirkelfroezels, maar daar ben ik intussen helemaal van teruggekomen na het zien van enkele prachtexemplaren!

Ik gebruikte een stofje van een nieuwe collectie van  Michael Miller, ‘lovely Llamas’, waar ik toevallig net 4 yard van gekocht had vlak voor de oproep naar testers. Ik vond dat zo een schoon stofje en wist zeker dat ik daar een bestemming voor zou kunnen vinden. En inderdaad, sneller dan gedacht 😉 Het lente- en zomergehalte van de stof vond ik perfect voor dit jurkje!

Het zonnetje scheen dan wel tijdens de fotoshoot, het was ijskoud. Maar het geeft wel alvast een idee van hoe die twee er in de zomer wel eens zouden kunnen bijlopen. Ik vind dat weer zo schattig 😉 Ik denk dat ik mezelf officieel een ‘twinner‘ kan noemen, haha 🙂

Belangrijk detail is misschien dat de stofkeuze ook mee bepaalt hoe de froezels vallen. Deze gewone katoenen stof is wat stijver dan bv. een viscose of rayon of …, waardoor de froezels ook wat meer ‘staan’. Als je daar niet van houdt, hou je daar best rekening mee.

Het patroon werd ook nog wat aangepast, zeker t.o.v. het jurkje van Rosanne, dat ik eerst naaide. De mouwopening is minder groot onder de arm, de froezels iets minder breed. In elk geval kan ik jullie verzekeren dat de pasvorm nu echt perfect is! En die cirkelrok geeft alvast ook een heleboel draaiplezier 😉

As one of the last testers I can finally show you the 2 Polina dresses I made for the pattern test of this brand new Coffee+Thread family member. I really felt lucky to be able to be a part of the pattern testing of Coffee+Thread again. I tested the Wild and Free Lounge Pants before, but couldn’t apply to test the 2 dresses she designed in the meantime, the Ania tunic  and the Ila dress, both so beautiful as well! So when I saw the call for testers for this gorgeous Polina dress, I didn’t hesitate and applied immediately! I like the challenge of a pattern test, trying to help to make the pattern and instructions as perfect as possible. So rewarding! 

I dare to think you must already have seen some of the gorgeous versions the others have made? If not, you really should do that right away! You will be surprised how many different looks you can create with this pattern! And how nice this dress can turn out! For example: I had a much bigger crush on the long frills than on the circle frills, but after seeing what other testers had made, I was as convinced about them as I already was about the long ruffles. So really, having a lot of examples help you get a clear picture about al the possibilities this dress gives you! Olga made a blogpost about all the testers versions, so don’t forget to hop over there to check them all out! The pattern has several options: a circle skirt, gathered skirt, long frills or circle frills around the neck, or even no frills at all, flared ties or straight ties, and with or without lining. The back closes with buttons, so no messing around with zippers here 😉

I made the version with the circle skirt and long ruffles, with flared ties, in sizes 3y and 5y. I didn’t use a lining, which seemed the best choice for the warm DC summers. I used a fabric of a new collection of Michael Miller, the ‘lovely Llamas’ collection. Just before I had seen the call for pattern testers, I had bought 4 yards if this fabric. I loved the vibrant colors so much that I was sure I would be able to use it all. And indeed I was, even faster than I could have known 🙂 The fabric has just the perfect spring and summer vibe that I had in mind for this dress! We were lucky to have some sun last sunday, to make these pictures. Only a little more than 24 hours later, it started snowing here! The sun really makes the colors of this dress pop all over you, I love it! And from now on, I’m officially a ‘twinner’. I just give in: it is so much easier to make the same dress for both: no fights, and it just looks so cute 😉

Just one little, but important detail: the fabric also defines the look of the frills. A quilting cotton such as this one makes the frills ‘stand’ a bit more, it just doesn’t have enough drape to make them look more ‘flowy’, or how should I put that… If you don’t like that look, you should keep that in mind when picking your fabric. I also must add that the pattern has been adapted since both these versions, and especially since Rosannes version. The armholes are less wide, and the frills a bit less wide. So rest assured: the fit is just perfect now!

Skola dress °2

Begin augustus mocht ik meedoen aan de patroontest voor de Skola dress, het nieuwste patroon van Elegance & Elephants, zoals jullie eerder al konden lezen en zien. Voor de patroontest maakte ik twee jurkjes, beiden voor Rosanne. Het tweede hadden jullie nog tegoed van me, maar krijgen jullie nu dus met wat vertraging. Ik heb me een beetje te hard ‘gesmeten’ voor de KCW, want al dat naaien gebeurt hier heus niet overdag, met twee kleine kindjes in huis en een heel huishouden te runnen. Resultaat na die week was dat ik heel erg moe was. Bovendien had ik onze blog over ons leventje in Washington al 1,5 maand compleet verwaarloosd dus daar heb ik ook veel werk aan, en ik ben vorige week ook hard in gang geschoten met het inrichten van de kinderkamer. Om maar te zeggen dat het best druk is. Ik wou echt dat er 48 uren in 1 dag zaten, om alles te kunnen doen wat ik zou willen doen. Maar helaas weten we allemaal dat dat niet zal gebeuren en dat er dus keuzes gemaakt moeten worden. Daarom zit ik soms ook een beetje in een twijfel-fase over deze blog. Ik moet eens even nadenken wat ik zelf wil hiermee, wat ik eruit haal en erin steek, enz. Maar voorlopig doe ik gewoon voort, en soms zal er hier wat meer te lezen/zien vallen, en soms wat minder zeker?

Maar nu kom ik terzake… de Skola dress dus 🙂

Voor mij echt hèt basispatroontje voor tricot jurkjes! Zoveel opties om te combineren en best snel klaar (afhankelijk van wat je kiest zelfs heel snel!). Ideaal voor paneelstofjes als je het gewoon in 1 deel maakt (zoals mijn eerste testjurkje), maar je kan ook kiezen voor twee soorten rokjes of voor een top, en dat alles kan zowel zonder mouwen als met korte of lange mouwen. En dan dat kraagje… ❤ !

Voor deze versie ging ik voor een rimpelrokje onder de top, en een gepunte kraag. Het stofje was er eentje dat ik echt al een eeuwigheid in de kast had liggen en waar ik ooit een half metertje van kocht bij Pauli in Leuven. Net genoeg om dit kleedje uit te krijgen. Voor het kraagje gebruikte ik een restje van een effen tricot van Art Gallery, al vind ik dat die kleur niet zo mooi staat bij Rosanne. Hopelijk maakt het schattige stofje dat goed 🙂

Over het patroontje kan ik weinig méér zeggen dan ik al gezegd had in mijn eerste post. Ik ben echt fan en er zullen zeker nog versies volgen. En als ik jullie niet kan overtuigen, zullen de vele mooie versies die ik intussen al zag passeren in de facebookgroep of in het overzicht van de patroontesters dat misschien wel kunnen?

In the beginning of August I’ve had the chance to test the latest pattern from Elegance & Elephants, the skola dress. I really am a huge fan of the pattern, as I think it is the perfect basic pattern for a dress in knit/jersey. There are so many options, which makes it a very versatile pattern which still is easy and fast to make. A win-win, I’d think! This is the 2nd version I’ve made for the pattern test, my first one is this. This time I chose the gathered skirt and the pointed collar. I really can’t add much more than I had already said about the pattern before (here), I’m just really happy with it and will definitely make more dresses like this! If you’re still in doubt, I’m sure the pictures on the facebookpage of E&E patterns or the pictures from all the testers will be able to convince you!

Skola dress °1

Toen ik vorige dinsdag een oproep zag voor een patroontest bij Elegance and Elephants Patterns, was ik meteen verliefd op het nieuwe patroontje, de Skola Dress & Top. Hoewel de tijd redelijk kort was, en ik in volle voorbereiding voor mijn eerste deelname aan de Kids Clothes Week (KCW) ben, kon ik er niet aan weerstaan om me op te geven als kandidaat-tester. Zo’n leuk patroontje!! Een echt basispatroontje voor een jurkje of t-shirt in tricot, is dat niet iets wat we allemaal nodig hebben? Ik zag meteen de eindeloze mogelijkheden ervan…

Ideaal voor paneelstoffen, een basis voor een t-shirt of jurkje zonder mouwtjes, met korte, of met lange mouwtjes, kraagjes (peter pan of gepunt), verschillende soorten rokjes (A-lijn, gerimpeld), … En dan denk ik nog niet aan de mogelijkheden om met kleuren te spelen, zakjes toe te voegen, enz. In de testersgroep werd er ook gespeeld met paspel, strikjes, … Ik zag echt prachtige jurkjes passeren daar!! Die kunnen jullie binnenkort ongetwijfeld allemaal bewonderen in de facebookgroep van E&E Patterns, of op de blog van Elephants & Elegance!

Ikzelf maakte twee testjurkjes en ben echt enorme fan van het patroon. En dat zeg ik niet omdat ik mocht testen, want als ik het misschien toch niet zo geweldig vond, zou ik dat zo niet zeggen. Nee, echt, ik vind het super! Ik ga er dus ook zeker nòg maken, en plan alvast eentje voor Sia in een paneelstofje van Bambiblauw. Ik word nu al blij als ik denk aan hoe blij zij daarmee gaat zijn, èn het is een ideaal patroontje voor die stof!

De pasvorm is ook heel mooi vind ik zelf. Rosanne zat net op maat 2 jaar voor haar borstomtrek en het zit haar als gegoten. Niet te strak en aanpassend, maar ook weer niet te los. Gewoon echt goed 🙂 Het kraagje is echt de finishing touch, daar was ik meteen dol op. Ik denk dus niet dat er hier snel een versie zonder kraagje zal komen 🙂

Er is tijdens de testfase nog wat gesleuteld aan het kraagje bij de kleinste maatjes, maar verder was er eigenlijk weinig dat nog moest veranderen en waren alle testers blij met het resultaat, en alle kindjes die die creaties mochten dragen ook!

Ik nam voor deze jurk een stofje dat ik vond bij Miss Anaïs en toen kocht om er – jullie raden het al – een K3 jurkje van te maken voor Rosanne. Het bleef echter liggen, maar kwam nu dus toch van pas 🙂 Rosanne is er dol op, en ik stiekem ook. Ze is er zo schattig in 🙂

Voor wie trouwens zou denken dat dit enkel goed is voor de zomer, kan ik zeggen dat het ook met lange mouwtjes kan gemaakt worden, èn wat je natuurlijk ook kan doen, is gewoon vestje, kniekousjes of broekkousjes, en voilà, klaar èn even modieus!

Het patroon is vanaf dinsdag 9 augustus hier verkrijgbaar, maar wie lid is of wordt van de facebookgroep kan het al maandag aanschaffen, mèt korting. Allen daarheen dus! Je zal er geen spijt van krijgen 😉

De volgende dagen ga ik me ‘smijten’ voor de KCW, er ligt vanalles bijna of helemaal geknipt klaar (Just Knot It en Miss Polly voor de dochters, een Omni Tempore voor m’n bijna-jarige metekindje, een Noa-pants-hack als het zou lukken, en babydekentjes voor de tweeling van m’n vriendin, àls ze tenminste besluiten om zo stilaan eens hallo te komen zeggen 🙂 ). Daarna toon ik jullie de tweede Skola jurk, die ik nog (fatsoenlijk) moet fotograferen…

Last week I saw a call for testers at the Elegance & Elephants Patterns group on Facebook. I immediately fell in love with the pattern. It just is the perfect basic pattern for any knit dress, or even for t-shirts with or without sleeves. The possibilities with the pattern just seem endless: no sleeves or short or long sleeves, a gathered or a-line skirt or a dress in one piece, a t-shirt or dress, 2 types of collar or without collar,  … And with some imagination you can totally customize it to any style you like. It also is the perfect pattern to use for those panel fabrics in your stash!

Although  I was quite busy cutting patterns and fabrics to sew next week, during KCW, I couldn’t resist applying, and was lucky enough to be able to join the testers group!! I made 2 dresses, and today I’m showing you the first (I still need to take pictures of the second). The fit of the dress seems just perfect! Not too fitted, but also definitely not loose on the body, just the way I like it. Rosanne also really loves her new dress! The other testers also were very much in love, as were their daughters 🙂 Many happy people so far! I’m not being so enthousiastic just because I tested, I really mean it when I say I LOVE this pattern big time! I will definitely be making more of them!
