patroontje/pattern: Kielo wrap dress – Named, mouwen/sleeves here
stof/fabric: een oldie van Fragile – niet meer verkrijgbaar (old fabric sale from Belgian clothing brand Fragile, sold out)
I have to admit I only got to know Named patterns a few months ago. I had seen many Inari Tee dresses in ‘blogland’, but never looked any further. Untill a few months ago, when I saw many Kielo wrap dresses popping up in a short time span. The design really got me interested, and when I googled it and saw so many gorgeous versions of it, I just had to buy it. It’s an interesting design, and by choosing different fabrics, adding sleeves or playing with the length, you can make a lot of different versions. I am pretty sure you can also make a sleeveless version of it in non-stretch woven fabrics. This woolen version proves that too.
For my own (first) version I chose one of the 2 very first jersey fabrics I ever bought, and I even remember exactly on what occasion. Sia, my oldest daughter, was born a few months earlier, and I almost had to get back to work. My mom was going to take care of her a day a week, so when there was a fabric sale from a belgian brand of clothes nearby my mom, that was the perfect occasion to leave my mom and daughter alone to ‘practise’ a few hours. For me I think it was the first time I left her alone after she was born! Quite a special memory 🙂 And also about time I used this fabric!
The pattern itself is super simple actually, although it might not look like it. It’s one front piece, and 2 back panels sewn together, and then only the 2 ties. En there it is! I think it took me as much time to draw and cut the pattern as it took me to make the dress itself! Isn’t that what we all want? 😉
The dress is designed with a maxi skirt, but I need to be able to ride my bike and also think it doesn’t really suit me well, so I shortened the skirt to knee-length. That way there is also no split left in the back. The pattern itself doesn’t come with sleeves, but you can get the sleeve pattern for free in their webshop. Instead of a full sleeve, I made it shorter, because I thought it looked like a pyjama otherwise.
On the neck you can chose between a finishing with biais tape facing or just hemming it. I chose the latter, and I think it looks just fine.
I find the result to be quite flattering, especially when seen from the front. I had to do a little effort on the tummy for these pictures, so maybe seen from aside it’s just a little less flattering 😉 Sorry also for the rather poor quality of these pictures, I’m not doing the best I can on pictures lately, and especially pictures inside the house are pretty difficult for me to get a good light and all. But ‘luckily’ my little photo bomber, who can’t resist to try to be on all my pictures, made it a fun photo shoot 🙂
