Designer Stitch Blogtour: Lena pants

Kenden jullie Designer Stitch al? Ik beken: ik niet, tot voor kort. Toen zag ik in een facebookgroepje – waar anders 😉 – dat er een blogtour georganiseerd werd voor de eerste verjaardag van deze designer, en bekeek ik de patronen eens. Een heleboel echt toffe patronen (en dat allemaal op slechts 1 jaar tijd!) en ook erg uiteenlopend qua stijl. Haar Alyse broek, met wijde of met rechte pijpen, had bijvoorbeeld niet misstaan in mijn lijstje van leuke broekenpatronen. Neem zeker een kijkje in de shop, zeker nu er deze week (nog tot 12 juni) een fikse korting te rapen valt van wel 50%!

Ik was dus blij dat ik kon meedoen aan de blogtour en een van die leuke patroontjes mocht kiezen om te maken. Zoals ik al eerder schreef, moet ik mijn kledij echt wel wat aanpassen aan mijn veranderde leventje. Hoe mooi ik die jurken en zo ook vind, ik zoek nu vooral makkelijke en comfortable kledij, die kind- en fietsvriendelijk is, en op dit moment vooral zomerse dingen. Mijn oog viel op de Lena pants. Een losse broek, een soort van harembroek, maar tegelijk ook best stijlvol door het design vond ik.

Het patroon kan gemaakt worden in meerdere soorten stof, zolang het maar goed doorvalt en niet te zwaar is. Ik wilde graag eentje in een effen tricot, voor maximum draagcomfort. Ik vond dat wel wat spannend, want vond niet meteen een voorbeeld online. Maar Anne, de ontwerpster, verzekerde me dat het een goeie optie is, dus ik ging ervoor. Het naaien ging erg vlot. Het is alleszins geen moeilijk patroon en de instructies zijn erg duidelijk. De inbegrepen naadwaarden zijn niet overal hetzelfde, wat iets nieuw was voor me, maar bij elke stap stond duidelijk aangegeven hoe groot de naadwaarde was, dus echt lastig was dat niet.

Op basis van de maattabel zou ik maat 5 hebben moeten nemen, maar ik besloot op basis van de afmetingen van het afgewerkte kledingstuk, en ook omwille van de keuze voor tricot, toch voor maat 4 te gaan. Een goeie keuze, want ik nam zelfs nog een klein beetje in aan de zijnaad bovenaan de taille en heup. De broek kwam bij mij tot net boven de enkel. Persoonlijk zag ik dat liever korter, als een driekwart broek. Ik wist niet goed hoe het kwam, want ben 167 cm lang (lengte waarvoor patroon voorzien is), droeg de broek enkele centimeters onder de taille, en denk niet dat ik iets mis deed. Bij nader inzien, toen ik nog eens goed naar alle foto’s keek, zag ik dat het waarschijnlijk te maken heeft met mijn lichaamsbouw of zo. Er waren nog een aantal andere voorbeelden waarbij de broek tot aan de enkel kwam, en daar had ik blijkbaar over gekeken. En deze tricot viel echt wel goed door, ook al was het een lichte tricot. Dat kan ook wel voor wat extra lengte gezorgd hebben. Lode vond het leuk op die enkellengte, maar zelf bleef ik twijfelen. Uiteindelijk hakte ik de knoop door en kortte ik de broek in. Ik knipte pakweg een 6-tal centimeter van het onderpand van de broek. En ik vind het goed 😉 Het is uiteindelijk een kwestie van smaak denk ik. Als je dus deze broek zelf wilt maken, is dat misschien iets om even over na te denken.

Ik naaide nog een tweede exemplaar, in een gekoesterd stofje van See You At Six. Wat een heerlijke stof, ik kan niet wachten op de tweede collectie, die er nu bijna aankomt hoop ik? Het is rayon, ideaal voor dit patroon. Ik paste het patroon aan door het broekdeel (voor- en achterpand) ongeveer 7 cm in te korten (naadwaarde inclusief) en ook de broekrand van de onderzijde maakte ik korter, ongeveer 4 cm. Het resultaat was meteen helemaal naar m’n zin.

Het is een model waar je voor moet zijn denk ik. Niet iedereen zal hiervan houden. Ook voor mezelf is het misschien echt wel nieuw, zo een harem-stijl broek. Maar ze zit echt fijn en makkelijk. Soms lijkt het alsof er een rare plooi zit, maar ik denk dat dat gewoon het type broek is, en dus een kwestie van wennen. Het stoort me alleszins niet, ik ben er zelf echt wel tevreden over. Afhankelijk van wat je erbij draagt, kan het er misschien ook wat plomp uitzien denk ik. Zoals toen ik de wijde, gele t-shirt aan had, wat me er zo ‘breed’ uit deed zien. Een aansluitende top was beter voor mij, denk ik.

Maar tegelijkertijd kan je, naargelang je stofkeuze en hoe je combineert met andere kledingstukken en schoenen, ook een heel stijlvolle broek hiervan maken. Zo vind ik zelf dat mijn beide broeken er al best verschillend uitzien, en voor de foto’s deed ik bij de 2e bewust een mooie en vrouwelijke hoge schoen aan, wat meteen een ander effect geeft, in mijn ogen.  Met een beetje fantasie zie ik echt wel veel mogelijkheden. bv. Een donkere satijnen broek (een van de stoffen waarvoor de broek ontworpen is) en een geklede blouse, mooie hak of sandaal, en je hebt een stijlvolle outfit voor een avondje uit. Enz.

Dus bij deze ben ik twee broeken rijker, die voldoen aan mijn nieuwe kledij-vereisten. Missie geslaagd 😉 Mijn kleine foto bomber vond het precies wel ok 😉  Wat vinden jullie ervan?

Did you all know Designer Stitch yet? I must confess: I didn’t, until a few weeks ago, when I saw in a facebook group -where else – that there would be a blogtour for the first anniversary of this designer. I had a look at the patterns in her shop, and discovered so many nice and versatile patterns! What an achievement in only 1 year, I was impressed! The patterns differ quite a lot in style, so I think any women can find something she likes.  The Alyse pants, with wide or with tapered legs, would have been a perfect candidate for my blogpost about interesting pants patterns, for example. If I were you, I would definitely go and have a look, even more now there is a huge sale to celebrate the first anniversary. All patterns are 50% off until June 12th!

So I must say I was happy to join the tour and to be able to pick one of these nice patterns to make my own. As I mentioned earlier, my life has changed drastically over the past year. However pretty I find all these dresses and fancy tops and things, I am almost never wearing them anymore, so I do not need more of those kind of clothes to just pile up in my closet. I need easy, comfortable clothing, child- and bike-friendly, and at the moment also good for summer. So that narrowed my choices. I let my eye fall on the Lena pants. A loose-fitting pants, some sort of harem pants, but at the same time also a bit more stylish because of the specific design.

The pattern can be made in different types of fabric, as long as it has enough drape and is not too heavy. I wanted one in a solid jersey fabric, for maximum wearing comfort 🙂 I got a little nervous, since I could not immediately find a similar example online. But Anne, the designer, reassured me that the fabric would be good, so I gave it a go. The sewing went very smoothly, it is not a difficult pattern and the instructions are very clear. The fact that the seam allowances were not everywhere the same was a bit new to me, but I liked the fact that every step in the instructions mentioned very clearly what the seam allowance needed to be there, so it wasn’t an issue.

Based on my measurements I should have taken size 5, but based on the measurements of the finished garment, and the fact that I made it in a jersey fabric, I chose to make size 4. A good choice, because I even took in the side seams a little bit at the waist and upper hip. The pants reached my ankle, something I wasn’t completely ok with. I preferred a little shorter, as some of the examples I had seen on the website of the pattern. I wasn’t exactly sure what caused this, as I am 167cm tall, wore the pants a few cm’s under the natural waist, and I did have the feeling I did not make real mistakes in cutting or sewing. But when I had another look at the pattern pictures online, I saw there are many other women too who wear it at the ankle, and it might have something to do with body type (long or short legs, overall length, …) and also with the type of fabric. I think the jersey stretches out more than other fabric types, even though it was a light-weight jersey. Lode (my husband) liked the ankle length, but I myself wasn’t entirely sure. I finally decided on shortening it, and I cut off about 6 cm’s of the lower leg panel. I think I like it this way 🙂 It finally all comes down to taste I guess… But if you would want to make the Lena pants yourself, this might be something you should think of.

I sewed a second pair of pants, in a cherished rayon fabric from Belgian fabric brand See You At Six. What a great fabric and great quality this is, I can’t wait for the second collection to come out, which should happen soon if I am right? The fabric was ideal for this pattern. Very soft and with the perfect drape. I adjusted the pattern by shortening the front and back panel by about 7cm (seam allowance included), and shortening the lower leg panel also by about 4 cm. The result was immediately what I wanted.

I assume this kind of pants is something you either like, or you just don’t like. It is also rather new to myself, this style. But I like it, I like the fit, I like the wearing comfort. Sometimes it looks like it has some sort of pleat in the front that is a bit too much, but I tend to think this just comes with the style of pants, and it doesn’t bother me, as I really like the pants. It also very much comes down to what you combine the pants with, in my opinion. For example when I was wearing the yellow wide top, I felt like it made me look more wide than I would want. It seems to go better with a more fitting shirt, at least for my body shape I guess. So depending on the fabric type, the combinations you make with other garments, and the type of shoes, I think you can create a whole different look with this one pattern. I myself think that my 2 pants look, and feel, quite different. For the pictures I chose to wear high heels with my 2nd pair, which already gives it a whole other look. With a little imagination I’m sure you can find lots of other possibilities, like f.i. a dark satin pair of pants (one of the fabrics that the pants are designed for), a classy shirt or blouse, some nice heels or sandals, … That could be perfect for a night out as well. And that’s just one thing I can think of.

So I now have 2 more pants that meet my new clothing needs. Mission accomplished 😉 My little photo bomber seemed to like it… What do you think of it?
