15 interessante patronen voor shorts – 15 interesting shorts patterns

Eind april verkondigde ik hier dat het vervolg op de post over broeken wel snel zou komen… Ik vrees dat dat niet helemaal gelopen is zoals verhoopt… Omdat niemand binnenkort nog gaat zitten wachten op een post over patronen voor shorts, heb ik me er eens echt aan gezet en kan ik jullie nu eindelijk toch mijn selectie short-patronen voorschotelen! Het zijn er net wat meer dan 10 geworden… Eens ik begon te zoeken, bleef ik er maar leuke tegenkomen! Er zijn er dus toch best veel te vinden, mits een beetje zoeken 🙂 Wat goed nieuws is, want ik deed deze patronen zoektocht eigenlijk omdat ik het zo moeilijk vind om flatterende en tegelijk leuke shorts te vinden in de winkel, en ik ook niet het gevoel had al veel leuke patronen voor damesshorts gezien te hebben. Maar daar is dus intussen verandering ingekomen!

Uiteraard is dit slechts een selectie, en doe ik ook hier, net als bij de broeken, ongetwijfeld een heleboel patronen en designers oneer aan door hen niet te vermelden. Voel je vrij om in een reactie nog suggesties te doen, de lezer kan er altijd iets mee zijn!

Helemaal aan het einde van dit bericht, na het overlopen van alle patronen, deel ik nog enkele andere links, zoals tutorials die ik vond, bv. over hoe je van een broekenpatroon een short kan maken, nog enkele heel recent gelanceerde patronen, en nog enkele andere dingen. Hopelijk ook interessant…

Dus hierbij mijn selectie patronen, in willekeurige volgorde:

1.Soho Shorts + Skirt – Liesl+Co

Deze Soho Shorts, van Liesl + co, als ik het goed voorheb een deel van Oliver + S (maar vraag me niet hoe het precies in mekaar zit!), viel me meteen op toen die dit voorjaar op de patroonmarkt gegooid werd. Het patroon omvat een plooirok en een short, eveneens los en met plooien. Geen ‘gewone’ short dus, het ziet eruit als een rok, zelfs als je het draagt. En toch ziet het er ook niet uit als een culotte. Best apart dus. Afhankelijk van de stofkeuze krijg je ook een totaal andere look, en kan je eigenlijk het hele jaar door nut hebben van dit patroon. Voor de zomer denk ik aan een losse viscose of rayon of chambray of zo, voor de winter een dikkere geweven stof. De plooien en de redelijk hoge taille maken dit design erg flatterend vind ik. Extra pluspunt is dat er een sew along terug te vinden is op de blog van Oliver +S, al ben ik niet zeker of die daar nog lang terug te vinden gaat zijn. In de introductiepost lees je nog meer details, en dat klinkt ook veelbelovend. Nieuwe technieken, spelen met de lengte, tutorials voor extraatjes (zoals deze om riemlussen toe te voegen), enz. These Soho Short shorts by Liesl+co immediately took my attention when the pattern was released earlier this year. The pattern includes a pleated skirt and pleated shorts. They are  not just ‘regular’ shorts, they look like a skirt too, in my opinion, and that makes them just a tad different than other shorts I’ve seen. They can be made in many different fabrics, and thus give you a  whole other look depending on fabric choice. That also makes this pattern quite verastile, you can easily use it in all seasons. It is also a flattering design in my opinion, and it looks both stylish and comfortable at the same time. 2. Belize Shorts + Skort – Itch To Stitch

De Belize shorts en skort is de short die nu op mijn naailijstje staan, want met een reis naar Belize in het vooruitzicht, is dat toch een must, dacht ik zo 😉 Het patroon omvat een shortversie en een ‘skort’, met 2 overlappende voorpanden, zoals je op de foto kan zien. Die versie spreekt mij persoonlijk minder aan, maar is wel specialer en ik kan me voorstellen dat dat voor sommigen net de reden zou kunnen zijn om dit wel te kopen. Het is alleszins anders dan doorsnee. De short zelf kan gemaakt worden met plooitjes in het voorpand, zonder plooitjes, met of zonder zakken, en ook bij de skort-versie zijn er enkele mogelijkheden. Best een veelzijdig patroon dus eigenlijk. Mij spreekt het aan omdat ik de pasvorm mooi vind en omdat het blijkbaar een snel en makkelijk patroon is, met een elastische taille. Elke versie die ik zag op haar website bij de introductie van het patroon, bij elk lichaamstype, vond ik mooi en flatterend. Het patroon ligt hier dus klaar, en ik moet zeggen dat de instructies er echt heel uitgewerkt uit zien, iets wat ik over de patronen van deze designer al meermaals las trouwens. Hopelijk binnenkort hier de afgewerkte versie 😉

The Belize short and skort is the next pattern on my own sewing list, as I am about to go on vacation to Belize, and what other pattern than the Belize shorts would be more appropriate then? 😉 The pattern includes a shorts and skort version, the skort having 2 overlapping front panels, so to say. Both have an elastic waist. I myself prefer the shorts version, but the skort is more special and I can imagine people prefer that. The shorts can be made with or without pleats in the front, with or without pockets, and the skort version also has 2 options. Quite versatile, in other words. I especially like the nice fit it seems to have, when I look at all the pictures I found online, more specifically in the introductory post of the pattern. An extra plus is that it is apparently a quick and easy sewing project. Since I have this pattern and am planning on making it, I have seen the instructions and they seem very thorough and detailed too. Hopefully in some time I can show you my own version(s)!

 

 

3. Chataigne Shorts – Deer and Doe

Ik kan niet anders zeggen dan dat het internet krioelt van de toffe voorbeelden van deze short, de Chataigne van Deer & Doe. Dat levert heel wat pareltjes op, en toont tegelijk de veelzijdigheid van een patroon dat nochtans een vrij ‘apart’ uiterlijk heeft, vooral door de driehoekige tailleband en de plooitjes. Ik maakte trouwens zelf ook een Chataigne (hier terug te vinden). Het patroon omvat 2 opties: een hele hoge taille, of een ‘gewoon’ hoge taille, en de broekspijpen kan je met een omslag afwerken (met blinde steek vastgemaakt, propertjes!) of met zo een geschulpte zoom (is dat nu een woord  dat bestaat?). De short gaat toe door een blinde rits in de zijnaad. Wat minder ‘makkelijk’ en ‘vergevingsgezind’ dan elastiek of zo, maar ook wel mooi. Ikzelf had wel wat ‘issues’ met het maken van de short en de juiste maat en zo, en heb dat ook bij anderen eens gelezen. Een testversie is dus misschien geen overbodige luxe.

I can only say the internet is packed with examples of this popular and known pattern by Deer & Doe. You can find really gorgeous versions of it, and all these pictures show at the same time the versatility of a pattern that nonetheless has quite a distinguished character and look, mainly because of the triangular waist band and inverted pleats. I made one myself as well, by the way 😉 (you can find it here). The pattern features 2 options: a very high waist or a ‘regular’ high waist, and the legs can be finished with cuffs or with a scalloped hem. It closes with an invisible zipper in the side seam. That is a little less easy and forgiving then an elastic waist, but it does add some class to it. I myself had some issues with the fit or sizing, I’m not entirely sure, and have read it at some other blogs as well, so maybe making a muslin or a test version in a cheaper fabric is a good idea.

Wat ik ook wel echt tof vond tijdens mijn online zoektocht, was om te ontdekken dat het patroon zich echt wel tot heel wat hacks heeft geleend intussen. Zo zijn er meerdere versies te vinden waarbij het aangepast werd voor een zwanger buikje (zoals bv. bij Along Avec Anna, en ik vermeld ook even haar super interessante lijst met zwangerschapspatronen, voor wie dat nodig zou hebben 😉 Je kan op haar blog ook altijd intikken ‘maternity’ en zo zien welke prachtige dingen zij allemaal maakte om te dragen tijdens haar zwangerschap!) , vond ik verschillende rokken (bv. hier en hier, met link naar een tutorial), en zelfs een superstijlvolle lange broek op basis van dit patroon. Nog meer mogelijkheden dus met dit ene patroon, en dat is toch ook een groot pluspunt 🙂

What I especially liked as well, when researching this pattern, is the discovery of many hacks. Maternity hacks such as the one by Along Avec Anna (and if you are interested in maternity patterns or hacks, make sure to check this post on her blog!), but also hacks to make a skirt with the pattern (such as this one, or this one with a link to a tutorial about it) and even to make a stylish pair of pants. So even more possibilities with this pattern! 

 

 

4. Goji Shorts and Skirt – Deer and Doe

Eigenlijk stootte ik maar geheel toevallig op dit patroon, toen ik de juiste link voor de Chataigne van Deer & Doe zocht. Ik vond deze er echter zo tof uitzien, dat ik het niet kon laten hem te vermelden. Het patroon omvat een short en een rok, met elastische taille. Ik heb geen uitgebreide internetzoektocht gedaan naar andere versies omdat dit patroon er een beetje op het einde nog is bijgekomen, en daardoor heb ik ook geen toestemming gevraagd aan andere blogsters om hun foto te gebruiken (en gebruik ik dus hun foto’s niet). Andere mooie versies kan je echter vinden in de blogpost van Deer & Doe zelf over de versies van reviewers en testers. Daarin wordt ook gelinkt naar de desbetreffende blogs. Dat vond ik wel goed om zien, omdat ik op basis van enkel de webshop-foto het een beetje riskant zou gevonden hebben om het te kopen omdat het toch iets of wat apart is en ik niet helemaal zeker zou zijn of het flatterend zou zijn. Maar dat is het dus wel, al zal dat ook wel afhangen van de stofkeuze denk ik. Ik durf bv. te denken dat het niet voor niets is dat er geen enkele stof met opvallende print bij de voorbeeldjes stond. Maar wie weet kan ook dat. 🙂

I only accidently discovered this pattern, while looking for the right link for the Chataigne Shorts (above). But it looked so nice, that I couldn’t resist adding this pair of shorts as well to this list. The pattern includes shorts and a skirt, with elastic waist. I didn’t do thorough internet search, and thus haven’t asked for permission of other bloggers to use their pictures of this pattern, so will not be able to show you more. But in this blogpost about testers and reviewers versions of this pattern, you can find some very pretty versions, with links to some blogposts too.  A good thing, as I wasn’t entirely convinced whether or not it would be a flattering model to wear. But I think it is, of course depending on fabric choice.

 

5. Harper Shorts + Skort – Megan Nielsen Patterns

Dit patroon omvat een short en skort versie. Ik ben over het algemeen niet zo’n fan van skorts, dus hou ook hier meer van de short versie. De skort is echter hier, net als bij de Belize shorts, toch wel anders dan anders en dat is misschien wel net wat iemand zoekt. Het patroon sluit achteraan met blinde rits, en heeft ook nepen om een mooie pasvorm te krijgen. Het ziet er in mijn ogen sportief maar toch tegelijk stijlvol uit, vooral door de zakken denk ik. Net een tikje anders dan een gewone short. In de blogpost over de introductie van het patroon kan je nog meer details lezen, en in de blogpost over testers vind je nog een heleboel leuke voorbeelden bij dames van allerhande lichaamstypes. Dat blijf ik toch altijd het meest overtuigend vinden wanneer ik een patroon koop.

This pattern also comes with a shorts and skort version. In general I’m not the biggest fan of skorts, and the same goes here. But again, I can imagine people absolutely prefer that look, which also has a lot of character and is different than ‘just’ shorts. The pattern closes with an invisible zipper in the back, and has darts in the back for a nice fit. I think it looks both sporty and stylish at the same time, especially because of the pockets I guess. If you’re interested, you really should read the introductory blogpost about it, for more details. In the blogpost about the testers versions, you can also find a lot of nice examples, something that often is the most convincing to me when I am considering to buy a pattern.

 

6. Flint Pants + Shorts – Megan Nielsen Patterns

Volgende in het rijtje is er nog eentje van Megan Nielsen, de Flint. Dit patroon omvat een broek met wijde pijpen op kuitlengte (‘cropped pants’) en deze short versie, waarbij het meest bijzondere eigenlijk is de manier waarop de broek en short gesloten wordt, namelijk door een soort van overslag, die je kan sluiten met een lint of met knopen.  Ik vind dat er echt heel mooi en flatterend, zelfs verslankend, uitzien. In de introductiepost over het patroon vind je meer uitleg, en er is ook een blogpost met foto’s van wat de testers van het patroon maakten. Ik moet echter wel bekennen dat ik niet alle versies van de testers mooi vind, maar dat overzicht toont volgens mij wel dat stofkeuze heel bepalend is voor de look van deze broek. Het is een veelzijdig en apart patroon, waarmee je heel wat kanten uit kan. Interessant dus 🙂 Nog interessanter is dat er ook een sew along op de blog is om je doorheen het hele naaiproces te gidsen, en ook een reeks tutorials die daarbij aansluiten en die volgens mij vooral dienen ter extra verduidelijking van sommige stappen. Dat kan dus niet mislopen zo te zien 😉

Next in line is again one of Megan Nielsen, the Flint this time. The pattern includes a wide leg cropped pants and shorts, with as most specific and special feature the  unique crossover closure at the side seam, that can be closed with ties or with buttons. I think it looks really flattering. In the introductory blogpost you can find a lot more details and explanation, and there is also a blogpost with testers versions. I must admit I don’t like all the versions there, but it does show that fabric choice is, as always, the main key to how it looks. It is a versatile pattern and the design is really different than anything else. Even more interesting is the fact that there is a sew along on the blog to guide you through the whole sewing process, and also a series of tutorials to add to that. So what can still go wrong? 

 

7. Berry Bubble Shorts – Rebecca Page Patterns

Jammer genoeg kon ik van dit patroon geen foto’s gebruiken van de testers ervan, maar 1 klik op deze link van het patroon, en dan even naar onder scrollen, en je ziet een ellenlange lijst van voorbeelden van alle opties bij alle types dames. Zeker de moeite om eens te bekijken dus, zeker omdat deze short er toch ook een tikje anders uitziet dan de ‘doorsnee’ short. De tailleband met de knopen en de zakken die daar net op aansluiten, bepalen de look, en zijn, samen met de plooitjes in het voorpand, volgens mij echt wel flatterend. Er is ook een optie om een soort van pof-effect te maken in plaats van rechte pijpen, maar daar zou ik persoonlijk nooit voor kiezen omdat ik denk dat dat bij peerfiguren net de brede heupen benadrukt, in plaats van verdoezelt. Maar ik ben geen stylist, dus misschien ben ik mis.  Rebecca Page is trouwens de ‘nieuwe’ naam van wat voorheen gekend was als Mummykins and me. De meeste van haar patronen zijn verkrijgbaar voor zowel dames als meisjes (bv. voor deze short), waardoor je dus een beetje kan ‘twinnen’ met je dochter(s) als je dat zou willen 🙂

It’s a little bit a pity I only could use the line drawings of the pattern and not some modelled pictures, but with only 1 click on this link of the pattern page, and some scrolling down, you are diving into a sea of pictures of these shorts, with all options and on ladies of all body types. Definitely worth the look, especially since these shorts are also a little bit different because of the design with the waistband with the buttons, and pockets right underneath. That really defines the look, and together with the pleats in the front it seems to be very flattering. There is also an option for a bubbled leg, but that is something that I wouldn’t chose as I think that emphasizes the wider hip in pear-shaped figures, something I prefer to avoid. But I’m not a stylist, so I could be wrong. Rebecca Page is by the way the new name of formerly known Mummykins and Me, and most of her patterns are available in both ladies and girls sizes (f.e. here). Perfect for those of us who like some ‘twinning’ with their daughter(s) 😉 

 

8. Ladies Getaway Shorts – Pattern Emporium

De foto’s kreeg ik niet in bijzonder goede kwaliteit in deze post geplakt, maar met 1 klik naar de pagina van het patroon zelf, kom je terecht bij deze en nog veel meer voorbeelden! Het patroon heeft een elastische taille die echter op verschillende manieren kan afgewerkt worden, omvat 3 verschillende lengtes, en 2 mogelijke taille-hoogtes. Meer details kan je vinden op de pagina van het patroon zelf. Het belooft een makkelijk en snel patroon te zijn, pluspunten!. Ik kende deze designer nog niet, maar las verschillende goede reviews, en ik vind dat het een flatterend patroon is voor zo goed als alle lichaamstypes. Zelf hou ik niet van lange shorts of shorts die zo ergens in de helft van je bovenbeen komen. Ik vind dat niet flatterend, maar misschien komen andere lichaamstypes er wel mee weg, en alles blijft uiteraard een kwestie van smaak. Het is alleszins meer dan een gewoon basispatroon door de verschillende opties.

I couldn’t get to use these pictures in better quality (and didn’t feel like bothering the designer with that :-)), but here again you only need to click on the pattern page to see all these, and many more, examples of this patterns. It features an elastic waist, that can be finished in 3 different ways, 3 different lengths, and 2 possible waist heights. You can find all details on the pattern page. It promises to be a quick and easy project, so those are definitely good points! I didn’t know this designer before, but have read some good reviews, and think this pattern is flattering to almost all body types. I personally don’t like longer shorts, but I can imagine some people do. It all comes down to taste. But because of the extra options, this really is more than a basic pattern.

 

9. Hepburn Shorts – Pattern Emporium

Van dezelfde patroondesigner is deze short er eentje, ook een schoontje! En toch helemaal anders dan het vorige. Het heeft plooien in het voorpand en omvat twee versies, eentje met een rits dat aanpassend maar toch relatief los zit en op twee verschillende lengtes gemaakt kan worden, en eentje met elastische taille dat losser van snit is en heel snel en makkelijk te maken is. Er zijn nog meerdere opties, zoals zakjes, riemlussen, en dergelijke. Alle details daarover vind je op de pagina van het patroon zelf. Ook hier maken de vele opties van het patroon dat je er toch heel wat kanten mee op kan, waardoor je met 1 patroon toch meerdere looks kan creëren. Stofkeuze is ook hier doorslaggevend denk ik, zoals je al in bovenstaande foto’s kan zien. Op de indiesew website vond ik ook enkele voorbeelden, waaronder bv. een lederlook versie van dit patroon. Weer wat extra inspiratie 🙂

This is again from the same pattern designer, also a pretty shorts pattern, in my opinion! And yet something really different than the previous one! This one has pleats in the front, and includes 2 versions: one with a zipper that is fitted bit still relatively loose, and can be made in 2 different lengths, and one with an elastic waist that are a little less tailored but still have a nice fit. There are more options for both versions, like pockets, belt loops, and so on. I suggest you read the pattern page for more details. Here again all these different options make this pattern versatile, and enable you to create very different looks with just this one pattern. Fabric choice is important, as you can see in the pictures above. On the Indiesew website I also discovered some examples, such as a leather-look version. Inspirational 😉 

 

10. Oceanside Shorts – Blank Slate Patterns

Dit is de short versie van een patroon dat ik ook had opgenomen in mijn blogpost over broeken. Toen ik op zoek ging naar foto’s, werd ik zo mogelijk nog meer fan van dit patroon. Toevallig vond ik heel recent zelfs enkele blogposts erover, nadat Annika van Näh-Connection het opnam in haar patronencatalogus voor vrouwen voor deze zomer. Ik hou erg van de zakjes met de knopen, ook al zouden die ook wel een mogelijke stoorzender zijn die de bredere heupen van peerfiguren extra benadrukt. Maar met een beetje gevoel voor stijl kan je dat wel omzeilen, zoals je op de foto’s goed kan zien. Het is een snel en makkelijk patroon (met maar 3 patroondelen!) en heeft een elastische taille met koordje erin. Je kan dat natuurlijk naar eigen smaak een beetje aanpassen, bv. door een lint, zoals hierboven op de foto’s van Madame Blanc te zien is. Comfortabel en aangenaam en tegelijk stijlvol, deze short. Allez, dat denk ik dan toch 🙂

This is the shorts version of a pattern that I also had included in my blogpost about pants patterns. When searching some more pictures, I even got more enthusiastic about the pattern. I also happened to find some very recent blogposts about it, after Annika from the blog Näh-Connection included it in her catalogue for womens patterns for this summer. I really like the pockets with (or without) buttons, even though they could potentially emphasize the hips, something I myself mostly want to avoid. But with a little sense of style I think you can get around that, as you can also see on the pictures above. It is a quick and easy pattern (only 3 pattern pieces!), with an elastic waist with drawstring. You can hack that, like you see above, by adding a tie, so classy! These shorts seem to be comfortable, nice, and yet stylish at the same time. 

 

11. Lilly Misses Shorts – Violette Fields Thread

Deze short is weer een beetje anders dan de anderen door de tulpvormige voorpanden. Ik weet niet echt helemaal zeker of dit altijd zo flatterend is voor peervormige figuren, maar denk dat dat vooral afhangt van de stofkeuze, en of je al dan niet de ronde rand benadrukt of niet. Op de pagina van het patroon zag ik toch enkele voorbeelden van iets rondere dames, waarbij het toch erg mooi was, dus het moet wel kunnen, en daarom vond ik dat dit patroon met z’n aparte look, hier niet mocht ontbreken tussen het lijstje. Temeer omdat het ook nog eens heel makkelijk en snel beloof te zijn. Ze zijn gevoerd en hebben instructies om dat randje van het ronde voorpand mooi te maken met lintjes, pompons, of wat dan ook. Het patroon omvat drie verschillende taillehoogtes. Het heeft een elastische taille, maar omvat uitleg over hoe je toch een ‘valse’ platte tailleband maakt. Dat ken ik precies zelf nog niet, dus klinkt interessant. Zulke extraatjes vind ik altijd leuk 🙂

These shorts are again a little different than the other patterns because of the petal shaped front panels. I wasn’t entirely sure ot would be flattering to pear-shaped figures, but think that that would mainly depend on fabric and embellishment choice. On the pattern page you can see some examples of more curvy ladies, and they look great too, so I’m pretty sure it is possible. That’s why I really also wanted to include this pattern in this list, because its special look. And even more as it promises to be a quick and easy project. These shorts are fully lined, and have instructions to embellish the petal shaped front. The pattern includes 3 waist heights, and has an elastic waist, but also includes instructions on how to do a faux “flat front” waistband.  I have no idea how to do that, so that sounds definitely interesting! I always like those kinds of extra’s 😉 

 

 

12. Port Pants + Shorts – Pauline Alice

Van deze ontwerpster heb ik al enkele jurkenpatronen. Ik maakte ooit de xerea dress (hier te zien), maar was daar niet helemaal blij mee. De Cami dress wil ik heel graag eens maken, en ik ben ooit eens begonnen aan een testversie, maar verder dan dat geraakte ik nog niet. Pauline Alice maakt echter echt wel fijne en aparte patronen, dus deze Port pants en shorts moest ik toch ook opnemen in dit lijstje. Vreemd genoeg had ik ze eigenlijk een beetje over het hoofd gezien, maar iemand maakte me er in de reacties op mijn blogpost over broeken attent op (waarvoor dank!) en zo ontdekte ik deze parel toch. Ook erg leuk als lange broek, zeker ook voor peervormige figuren denk ik! De short vind ik ook heel tof, en valt me op door het professioneel ogende uiterlijk, met zakken en de mogelijkheid om de zakjes achteraan met een rits af te werken. Wel wat extra moeite, dat zou mij als luie naaister wel wat tegenhouden, maar het oogt wel echt goed. Doordat de pijpen wat uitlopen, vind ik dit een flatterend model, een basismodel waar je echter toch iets bijzonder kan van maken door allerhande details.

I have 3 dresses patterns of this designer already: the Xerea dress I once made wasn’t the biggest success, but I was the one to blame there, and I started a muslin of the Cami dress a long time ago and never got further than that. But that being said, I really like the style of her patterns, so had to include this pattern as well. Strangely enough I had kinda missed this pattern, but luckily someone mentioned it in a comment on my blogpost about pants (thank you!)  and hence I discovered this beauty too. Very nice as long pants too, by the way! The shorts stands out because of the professional look of it, in my opinion. It has front patch pockets and back pockets that can be closed with zippers. For a lazy seamstress like me that would maybe be a bit of a barrier to make it, but I must admit it looks so nice that maybe I should just get over that 🙂 I like the wide legs, which make it flattering, and it has lots of possibilities to make it very special too. 

 

 

13. City Gym Shorts – Purl Soho

In dit lijstje het enige gratis patroontje, en meteen ook een toppertje voor groot en klein. Het internet wemelt van de voorbeelden ervan, niet in het minst in het Belgische naai- en blogwereldje. Terecht, want het is eigenlijk best veelzijdig! Ik vind het frappant dat eenzelfde patroon er zowel supersportief kan uitzien, als best chique, zoals de voorbeelden hierboven aantonen, ook al is het vooral als sportieve short bedoeld, zoals de naam laat vermoeden. Het kan bovendien voor zowel volwassenen als kinderen, en in heel wat verschillende stoffen, zowel geweven als zelfs stretch stoffen, al vond ik van dat laatste maar 1 voorbeeldje online (maar ik mocht de foto niet gebruiken). Ans van de blog Stoffenspulletjes maakte twee zwangerschapsversies van het patroon, dus zelfs dat is mogelijk! Ik lees overal dat de instructies van het patroon heel duidelijk en makkelijk zijn en dat het dus snel klaar is. Ideaal dus 😉

The only free pattern in this list, and immediately a favorite for all ages. The internet is full of these! Rightfully so, as it is quite versatile despite its specific and sporty look. I find that quite extraordinary: that one pattern can look so sporty but with a different fabric also quite classy and stylish as well, as you can see in the above examples. The pattern is for kids and for adults, and can be made in a lot of different fabrics. I even found a version in stretch fabric (but couldn’t use the picture). Ans of the blog Stoffenspulletjes made 2 maternity versions of it, so even that is possible! I read everywhere that the instructions are clear and that the pattern is quick and easy. Ideal! 

 

14. Nina Skirt + Culotte – Compagnie M

De Nina rok en culotte van Compagnie M kan ik als Belgische toch ook niet laten liggen, en past ook best in dit rijtje. Technisch gezien misschien niet helemaal een short, maar net zoals de Soho shorts aan het begin van dit lijstje, komt het toch ook neer op een soort rok-achtige broek en vind ik dat dat hier wel thuishoort. Vooral ook omdat je eigenlijk ook wel best makkelijk met de lengte kan spelen, zoals ikzelf deed in mijn voorbeeld, of zoals dat van Sisko by Mieke. De oorspronkelijke versie, die je ook op de pagina van het patroon zelf goed kan zien, is korter en lijkt dus meer op een ‘short’. Een culotte is natuurlijk iets waarvan je moet houden, maar het is echt ‘in’ en je kan het op zoveel verschillende manieren stylen. Ik draag de mijne supergraag en veel, het is heerlijk comfortabel en toch lekker fris ook. Bovendien ideaal voor peervormige figuren! Ik vond het ook absoluut geen moeilijk patroon om te maken, zoals jullie hier konden lezen, dus kan het enkel aanraden.

As a Belgian I cannot resist to include the Nina skirt and culotte by Compagnie M in this list. Technically maybe not really shorts, but just like the Soho skirt & shorts in the beginning of this list, it comes down to a skirt-alike pants and I think it does fit into this list. Especially since it is rather easy to play with the length, shortening or lengthening it and thus creating a different look. Sisko by Mieke lengthened it and I also did that, but the original version, as you can see on the pattern page and the other pictures above, is meant to be a little shorter. A culotte is something not everyone likes, but it is really into fashion and you can style it in so many ways. I really like mine and wear it a lot, it is so comfortable and breezy too. And it is flattering for pear-shaped figures! it also was not hard at all to construct, as you could read in my post about it, so I can only recommend it!

 

15. Nagoya Pants + Shorts – Papercut Patterns

Laatste in het rijtje is de Nagoya pants en shorts van Papercut Patterns. Ik ben een beetje fan van dat merk, zoals jullie hier en ook bij de broeken al konden lezen waarschijnlijk 🙂 Deze komt uit hun laatste nieuwe collectie, en het patroon omvat een lange broek, een driekwart broek, en deze short. Best een veelzijdig patroon dus! Omdat het echt nog maar heel recent uitkwam, vond ik geen enkele andere foto dan deze, en door deze stofkeuze ziet het er een beetje uit als iets om ’s nachts te dragen misschien. Maar dat is het weldegelijk niet, door de constructie van het design, die een mooie pasvorm garandeert door o.a. nepen, een relatief hoge taille met “double-stud” (geen idee hoe ik dat moet vertalen…) tailleband, afgeronde zakken, en en gulp vooraan. Ik zou jullie aanraden om de pagina van het patroon te bezoeken om dat wat beter te bekijken en te lezen, en hopelijk duiken er binnenkort allemaal leuke versies van dit patroon op!

Last in this list are these Nagoya pants and shorts by Papercut Patterns. I am a little bit of a fan of this brand, as you could read here and also with the pants post already 😉 This pattern is from their latest collection, and it includes a long (ankle-length) pants, cropped pants, and shorts. Quite versatile! Because it only very recently was launched, I did not yet find another example of it, and the fabric choice in these pictures make it look a bit like sleepwear, while it is not at all intended like that. The design has several features to make it tailored and flattering and to garantuee a good fit. I would suggest you go and read the pattern page to read more details about it, and hopefully soon enough we will see nice examples popping up all over the internet :-

 

NOG EXTRA

• Ik zag recent nog enkele nieuwe patronen voor shorts opduiken, als in ‘de voorbije week’, maar het zou echt teveel worden om die hier ook nog te bespreken. Maar vermelden kan natuurlijk altijd 😉 Het gaat om de Linen Loungers van Patterns For Pirates, en de Tess Tulip Shorts van Bella Sunshine Designs.

 

• Daarnaast zag ik toevallig vlak voor ik dit bericht wilde publiceren nog een patroon voor een broek en short bij Sewaholic, namelijk de Thurlow Trousers & shorts. Voor zij die dit niet weten: dit is HET merk bij uitstek voor patronen voor peervormige figuren, want die zijn echt ontworpen voor dat lichaamstype! Ik kon het dus echt niet laten om dat toch nog toe te voegen 🙂

• Hou je van Culottes, dan kan je ook altijd eens kijken naar de Ninni Culotte van Named Patterns. Daar zag ik trouwens op de supertoffe blog The Sara Project dit mooie voorbeeld van! Hier kan je ook een gratis patroon en tutorial vinden om een culotte te maken, maar ik heb geen idee hoe de pasvorm daarvan zou zijn natuurlijk.

 

• Je kan ook van de meeste patronen voor broeken een short maken. Daarvoor vond ik een goede tutorial op de blog Melly Sews, zeker de moeite waard om eens te bekijken of om te pinnen 🙂 Op de blog Itsewcolorful kan je een goed en heel mooi voorbeeld daarvan vinden, want zij maakte een short op basis van de Alyse pants van Designer Stitch, ook een heel tof broekenpatroon trouwens!

 

• Nog 3 gratis tutorials om shorts te maken: eentje bij Melly Sews, eentje op de blog the31women, en eentje op wikihow, jawel 🙂

 

• Op pinterest vond ik onlangs nog dit overzichtje met interessante shorts patronen, verzameld door Marie Claire. Ook een bezoekje waard, want een groot deel ervan kende ik niet en er zitten er echt aparte tussen!

 

Ziezo, dat was het voor de shorts! Hopelijk heb ik jullie kunnen inspireren 🙂 Ik wilde ook nog een overzichtje maken van badpakken/lingerie, maar denk dat intussen niemand daar nog echt op zit te wachten, dus denk dat ik dat maar ga laten tot het voorjaar van 2018. Hopelijk lukt het me nog wel om een overzicht te maken van interessante patronen voor jassen zo ergens tegen de herfst. Ik heb er al heel wat verzameld, maar tips zijn altijd welkom 🙂

P.S. Net zoals bij de broeken, heb ik ook nu toestemming gevraagd aan iedereen wiens foto’s ik heb gebruikt, of ik dat mocht doen. Dankjewel daarvoor! Weer ontdekte ik leuke blogs, dus ik kan iedereen aanraden om wat rond te klikken en verder te lezen!

Een reactie maakt mij altijd blij!

Somewhere around the end of april I announced in my blogpost about interesting patterns for pants that the next blogpost in my so-called mini series about interesting patterns (for pear-shaped figures) soon would follow and would be about shorts. But I’m afraid that’s not exactly what happened as it is already the end of July… Because soon enough nobody will still be waiting on anything about shorts, I decided to really make it work and started working a little more intensively on it again. So here it is, I can finally show you my selection of shorts patterns. I intended to have 10, but ended up with 15, oops… I just kept on finding good ones! Good news, as the main reason to do this post was my feeling that RTW shorts were so hard to find, and that the same could be said about patterns for shorts. But boy, it seems I was wrong! 

Obviously, just as with my post about pants, this is just a selection, and I am sure I do a lot of ‘injustice’ to a lot of other interesting patterns out there by not including them in this list. I’m sorry about that. But feel free to add patterns in the comments! Could be useful for anyone who reads this!

I also will add some extra links at the bottom of the post, after going through all the patterns. They are tutorials, f.i. about how to make shorts out of a pants pattern, or free patterns, and some other suggestions, as well as some very recently released or discovered patterns (so recent that I almost had finished this post, so couldn’t add any of them anymore!). Hopefully you can find that also interesting.

So above, in the dutch section of this post, you can find the pictures with 15 patterns I picked, in random order. I chose to write the English explanation underneath the pictures itself, right after the dutch explanation. I tend to think it is nicer to read and see pictures together, instead of having to scroll back to know which pattern I am talking about. I realize this might look a bit messy, but hope it still is ok like that. I will continue with the extra’s here:

• Very, very recently, I saw some new patterns for shorts popping up. They also seemed nice, but I really couldn’t add any extra’s anymore here. But no harm in mentioning them, for those who would be interested 😉 They are the Linen Loungers by Patterns For Pirates, and the Tess Tulip Shorts by Bella Sunshine Designs.

 

• Next to those new patterns, I also stumbled upon a pattern for pants and shorts by  Sewaholic, the Thurlow Trousers & shorts to be precise. I also found a tutorial and free pattern on how to make a culotte, but I have no idea about the fit of that pattern. 

 

• You can also use a lot of pants patterns to make shorts out of them. I found a very good tutorial on that on the blog Melly Sews, definitely worth to read and maybe to pin on pinterest too 😉 On the blog Itsewcolorful you can also find a very good explanation and pretty example of that, as she made a pair of shorts with the Alyse pants by Designer Stitch, also a very nice pattern for pants, by the way.

• 3 more free patterns and tutorials to make shorts: one at Melly Sews, one at the blog the31women, and one on wikihow  🙂 

• On pinterest I recently found this list with interesting shorts patterns by Marie Claire, a French magazine. Also might be worth a visit, as they include many really nice patterns that I didn’t know of and are really interesting!

I wanted to also make a list like this for ladies swimsuits and maybe lingerie at the same time, but as we are already halfway summer, I’m not sure if anyone is still interested in that. Since it takes me so much time to finish these blogposts, I think I’m going to postpone that one until next spring. Hopefully I will manage to write a post about coats this fall 🙂 I have already collected a lot of patterns, but any suggestions are welcome 🙂
