Geneva Cardigan part 2

Jullie konden het in mijn vorige bericht al lezen, dat er een nieuw patroontje is in de Coffee+Thread familie. En dat wij daar heel blij mee zijn! Ik maakte voor de patroontest een tweede cardigan voor Rosanne, in een lang gekoesterd stofje van Finch Fabrics. Een stofje met paardjes op een carrousel, daarvan wist ik dat ik ermee zou scoren bij de dochter(s) 🙂

Ik kocht eigenlijk maar een klein stukje van deze stof, ik denk niet eens een meter, maar kreeg de cardigan er zonder probleem uit en heb zelfs nog een beetje over. Ik denk niet dat dit stofje nog ergens te krijgen is, maar er is gelukkig nog wel wat keuze aan andere Finch Fabrics 🙂

Enige dat een beetje een doorn in m’n oog is, is de knipfout die ik maakte voor het voorpand. Ik was nochtans zeker dat ik het goed had gedaan, want ik had rekening gehouden met de breedte van het knopenpat. Helaas was ik eventjes uit het oog verloren dat de voorpanden overlappen… Waardoor ik nu dus met twee pony’s naast mekaar zit, waarvan er eentje maar een halve poep heeft als de cardigan dicht is. Ach ja…

Deze versie past misschien niet bij even veel dan de vorige, maar toch bij meer dan genoeg en zeker bij effen broekjes/shortjes/rokjes. En de dochter trekt zich dat niet aan, want vandaag wilde ze het per se dragen boven een kleedje met een heel drukke print waarvan de kleuren totaal niet matchten 😉 Zolang zij maar gelukkig is he 😉

Ondanks dat het een iets dunner stofje was, ging het naaien hier even vlot als bij de vorige versie. Ik kopieerde voor deze versie ook de afwerking van een van de medetesters, Meg (foto hieronder, hier terug te vinden op IG). In plaats van enkel de randen met de overlock af te werken, werkte zij ze af met een biais aan de binnenzijde, en dus niet enkel aan de neklijn. Wat een prachtig en professioneel resultaat! Dat wilde ik ook wel eens proberen!

Verder denk ik niet dat ik nog iets kan toevoegen aan wat ik in mijn vorige bericht al schreef. Ik ben en blijf fan van dit patroon!

You could already read in my previous blogpost that there is a new member in the Coffee+Thread pattern family. And that we are very pleased with that new baby! I made Rosanne a second cardigan for the pattern test, in a long cherished fabric from Finch Fabrics. A fabric with horses on a carrousel, I just knew I was going to score with that! I had bought only a little piece, not even a full yard, but could easily get the whole cardigan out of it, and even have some left. I don’t think this particular fabric is still for sale somewhere, but luckily there is quite some choice left from this kind of fabrics at Finch Fabrics themselves. The only thing that caused me some irritation in this project, was the cutting mistake I made for the front. Even though I did think about the folding line for the button placket, I forgot the 2 plackets are overlapping each other. So I ended up having 2 ponies right next to each other, with one of them having its butt cut off by the other 😉 But oh well… It is what it is 😉

This version might not be as easy to combine with all her clothing, but still with more than enough, especially with solid bottoms. And even then, she will not really care. Today she wanted to wear it together with a dress with a very busy print and completely non-matching colors. As long as she is happy… 😉

Even though the fabric was a little lighter than the previous one, the sewing went as smooth as the first version. I also copied the bias finishing from one of my fellow testers, Meg, who you can follow on IG. She did not only finish the collar and neckline with bias, but also the front panels and the hem. That looked soooo professional and clean, and I just needed to give it a try as well. The result made me really happy too!

Besides that I don’t think I have anything else I can add to what I already wrote in my previous post. I just am really in love with the pattern 🙂
