10 interessante patronen voor damesbroeken – 10 interesting patterns for pants

Tegenwoordig koop ik eigenlijk graag, en veel, aparte papieren en pdf patronen en neig ik er veel vaker naar om die te (willen) maken, dan om iets te kiezen uit een tijdschrift. Ik houd er niet van als ik niet echt zeker kan zijn van een maat, of niet goed weet hoe iets gaat vallen. Bij losse kooppatronen, zowel pdf-patronen als papieren patronen, lijk ik er precies net iets meer op te kunnen vertrouwen dat de pasvorm goed zal zijn. Ik heb intussen zelf al enkele keren zo’n patroon mee mogen testen, dus ik weet hoeveel werk een ontwerper in z’n patroon steekt, en hoe belangrijk zij/hij het vindt om een goed product af te leveren. Niet dat dat bij een tijdschrift niet het geval is, maar het is toch net dat tikje anders. Ik denk niet dat alle patronen van alle edities van knippie, La Maison Victor, … zo uitvoerig getest worden. En ik hou ook gewoon van de stijl van bepaalde patroonontwerpers en bewonder hun werk, dat ik dus ook maar al te graag ondersteun door daar af en toe wat centjes aan te besteden 🙂

Iets wat ik bijzonder moeilijk vind, zijn broeken. Ze zoeken in de winkel is altijd een ware ramp, ik vind bijna nooit wat ik wil. Maar ook ze zelf maken, daar durf ik maar niet (echt) aan te beginnen. Mijn sew challenge poging was op dat vlak ook maar een half succes te noemen. Ik ben dus al een tijdje patronen aan het zoeken waarvan ik denk dat ze mijn figuur, a.k.a. de peerfiguur, zouden flatteren, en die me qua stijl aanspreken. Sommige heb ik ook gekocht, maar maakte ik nog niet, anderen heb ik enkel ‘gespot’ en zullen al dan niet nog gekocht worden in de toekomst.

Omdat ik denk dat ik niet de enige ben met het ‘broekenprobleem’, besloot ik hier een lijstje te maken met een overzicht van de broekenpatronen die ik op het oog heb, en waarom ze me aanspreken. Belangrijk is wel dat dit geen review is, want geen van deze broeken heb ik al gemaakt! Enkele van de patronen heb ik wel al aangekocht en hoop ik binnenkort te kunnen proberen, sommigen (nog) niet. Maar allemaal zijn het patronen die me aanspreken, en vandaar dus deze selectie, die ongetwijfeld oneer doet aan een heleboel patronen die ik hier niet vermeld! Voel je vrij om die in de reacties te vermelden! Het kan maar nuttig zijn voor wie hier later nog eens zou komen lezen 😉

Dit patroon ‘ontmoette’ ik op de Australische blog Bombazine (de mosterdkleurige broek, in deze post), een blog die eigenlijk echt de moeite waard is om te volgen trouwens.  Ik vond het een leuk model, de uitleg sprak me aan, en dus was ik benieuwd naar meer. Ik klikte door en belandde zo op de minstens even inspirerende blog Jolies Bobines. Een dame met stijl! Haar versies van haar eigen patroon vond ik eigenlijk zo mogelijk nog veel mooier. Het is een broek met elastiek in de taille, en een lint erdoor, en ik leerde meteen dat het een ‘paper bag pants’ heet, en dat dit ‘in’ is klaarblijkelijk 😉 Ik hou vooral van de lossere stijl zoals in de lichtblauwe versie hierboven. Los genoeg aan de heupen en een hoge taille, iets waarvan ik denk dat het mijn figuur wel zou kunnen flatteren.  Al weet je zoiets pas zeker als je het aan hebt, en ben ik vast en zeker geen stijlconsulent. (waar zit dat boekske van Trinny & Susannah dat ik ooit eens kocht ook alweer??!!). De broekspijpen worden smaller onderaan, maar niet te smal, want daar hou ik niet zo van omdat dat volgens mij de aandacht vestigt op de heupen, iets wat ik nu net wil vermijden. Ik vind het echt een stijlvolle broek die volgens mij ook supercomfortabel is. Win-win, niet?  En eentje die in heel veel verschillende stoffen gemaakt kan worden. Op beide blogs vind je trouwens meer uitleg over het patroon, klik zeker door als je interesse hebt!

Het patroon is geen apart kooppatroon, maar deel van het boek ‘Jolies Tenues’ door Julie, de dame achter de blog. Toen ik daar even verder onderzoek naar deed, was de conclusie duidelijk: dit moest ik hebben 😉 Heel veel leuke patronen, zo lijkt het me! Hier in Amerika vond ik het precies nergens (huh?? kan dat????), maar gelukkig hadden ze het bij De Standaard, en gaat mijn lieve mama het voor me meenemen binnenkort als ze op bezoek komt 🙂 Het is ook te koop op via amazon france. Het is overigens in het Frans, maar ik las op de Bombazine blog dat zij het perfect kon volgen door de duidelijke foto-begeleiding.

I ‘met’ this pattern on the Australian blog Bombazine, in the form of the mustard yellow pants (in this post). (This blog is really worth following by the way!) I liked the style of the pants, was interested, and clicked through, only to find an equally stylish and interesting blog: Jolies Bobines. What a classy lady she is, waauw! I loved her versions of her own pattern even more, especially the light blue one. It features an elastic waist, a ribbon, and apparently this style is called ‘paper bag pants’ and is really hot and happening these days, so I learned 😉 I also like the tapered leg, not too narrow at the end. I like this style as I think it is flattering for my pear-shaped figure, although I’m no stylist and you only know these things for sure after trying… But I am absolutely sure this pants look both stylish and comfy, and the fact that they can be made in various fabric types makes it even better! A winner, don’t you think? 😉

The pattern is part of a book called ‘Jolies Tenues’, which is french for ‘Beautiful outfits’ and it indeed seemed like it was full of that. So I decided I needed this book 😉 It is for sale on amazon France, but wasn’t available on amazon USA. I bought it in a Belgian book shop, and my dear mom will bring it on her visit in a few weeks.

2: Terra Pants – Pattern Fantastique

Tja, zei ik al dat die blog Bombazine echt wel de moeite is? Want ja, op diezelfde blog leerde ik ook dit patroon kennen (in deze post). Het silhouette ervan interesseerde me. Anders dan anders. Het ziet er een beetje uit als een kostuumbroek, misschien heeft het zelfs iets mannelijk, maar tegelijk ook weer helemaal niet. De broek heeft karakter, pit, uitstraling. In mijn ogen dan toch. Ik hou van de bredere pijpen, van het accentueren van de taille (wat de aandacht wegtrekt bij de heupen, interessant voor peerfiguren), en de plooien zorgen voor een bijzonder detail. Op de site staat ook dat de tailleband vooraan lager is dan achteraan, en dat vind ik persoonlijk ook erg mooi. Over dit patroon is volgens mij goed nagedacht. Ik durf ook te denken dat deze broek in meerdere types stof leuk zou kunnen zijn. Ik vond toevallig enkel zwarte voorbeelden op het www, maar mits wat verbeelding kan je je het misschien wel voorstellen.

Het patroon is enkel als pdf verkrijgbaar, wat ik een klein minpuntje vind omdat ik een hekel heb aan al dat knippen en plakken. Maar buiten dat detail lijkt het me best de moeite waard. Geen broek waarmee iedereen rondloopt, maar wel eentje waarmee je persoonlijkheid uitstraalt.

So, did I tell you that the Bombazine blog is really worth a visit? 😉 Wel it is, since I also found this pattern on their blog! I was immediately interested in it when I saw it. It’s just different. It looks a bit like a costume pants, a bit masculine but at the same time also very feminine. It has character, style, and looks empowering somehow. To me anyway. I like the wider legs, the pleats, and reading the explanation of the pattern you can tell there has gone a lot of thought in drafting this pattern too. Like the waistband, which is lower in the front than in the back, which looks very nice in my opinion. I also tend to think this pants can be made in a lot of different fabrics, even though I only found black examples online.

The pattern is only available as a pdf pattern, which is to me just a little downside as I truly hate all the cutting and taping that comes with it. But besides that this seems really worth it. Not a pattern for everyone maybe, but definitely one with lots of personality.

3: Tierras Woven Joggers – Itch To Stitch

Dit patroon kwam ik viavia en na wat doorklikken toevallig tegen tijdens mijn zoektocht naar een frisse broek voor de zomer. Zo eentje die niet te pyama-achtig, of niet te jogging-achtig is. Altijd als ik zoiets zag was er wel iets waar ik niet helemaal van overtuigd was. Maar bij deze denk ik dat het toch net is wat ik wil. Al hangt heel veel af van de stofkeuze denk ik ook. Zoals je op de voorbeelden ziet (waaronder eentje van onze Belgische blog-collega Delphine trouwens, een pareltje als je ’t mij vraagt), is dit echt een broek die er tegelijk fris, zomers, casual, en stijlvol uitziet. Heel comfortabel ook volgens mij. Bij het googelen vond ik veel verschillende versies die me echt helemaal aanspraken. Dit is blijkbaar ook een beginnersvriendelijk patroon, mooi meegenomen. Ik durf te denken dat dit echt een patroontje is dat je jaar in jaar uit terug gaat gebruiken als de zomer er weer aankomt, een soort van basic die altijd goed is en goed zit.

Het is een pdf-patroon, waarbij je ook een A0 file krijgt om het eventueel in de copy shop te laten drukken.

I discovered this pattern just by coincidence when I was clicking through a bit while searching for summer pants. I like the style, as it doesn’t make me think too much of pyama’s, nor about sportswear or things like that. Woven summer pants just always seemed to have something about them that made me feel reluctant to want to sew them. But I don’t have that feeling with this one. Of course that also has to do with fabric choice, you can probably still make a pyama pair of pants with this pattern but there is something to it that is different. I think you might see what I mean when looking at the pictures above, or if you google the name of the pattern and scroll through the many examples. It also is a beginner friendly pattern, I like that as well 🙂 I really think you can look both stylish and casual in these pants, all while being completely summerproof. I am quite convinced this is a pattern that never goes out of style, a basic for your wardrobe, that can be worn every summer again.

4: Forsythe Trousers – Blank Slate Patterns

Dit is waarschijnlijk het meest recente patroon in dit lijstje, want werd nog maar enkele weken geleden uitgebracht door Melissa van de blog Melly Sews en de patroonshop Blank Slate Patterns. Ik volg haar blog al lang en vind er heel vaak supergoeie tips, tutorials, en gewoon ook veel inspiratie. Dit patroon sprak me meteen aan omdat het me de perfecte combinatie lijkt van casual en toch gekleed. Dus even goed voor een zomerse broek voor thuis, die tegelijk even goed gedragen kan worden voor een etentje, naar het werk, … De broek versmalt licht naar onder toe, wat volgens mij zowel stijlvol als flatterend is, en net maakt dat deze broek goed is voor meerdere gelegenheden. De strik vind ik bovendien een leuk detail, maar ik denk dat je die ook gewoon kan weglaten als je die maar niks vindt. De driekwartversie is daarenboven echt helemaal summerproof. Afhankelijk van je stofkeuze ziet de broek er ook heel anders uit. Sommige van de testversies konden me niet echt bekoren, maar de versies van de patroonontwerpster zelf zijn echte toppers in mijn ogen.

Op de blog kan je lezen dat het patroon zeer uitgebreid getest is, en in een heel veel maten komt, interessant dus! Het is enkel als pdf verkrijgbaar.

This probably is the most recent pattern in this list, as it is only released a few weeks ago by Melissa from the blog Melly Sews and the pattern shop Blank Slate Patterns. I am already following her blog quite some time and have found so much good advice there, patterns, tutorials, and so on. Very inspirational! The pattern immediately drew my attention. It seems like the perfect combination of a casual yet stylish pants (yes, here I go again, apparently I like that combination ;-)). A pair of pants that can be worn at home, but would work just as good to go on a trip, for a drink, or go to work. The legs are slightly tapered, which I think is flattering and is the thing that makes this pants suitable for so many occasions. Depending on the fabric choice, you can also make quite a difference. The ribbon gives it all a finishing touch, I quite like that, but you can slo leave it behind if you don’t. I also like the shorter version, totally summerproof! I did not fall for every tester version I saw, but the ones made by the pattern designer are really totally my style. Maybe I’ll copy them one day 😉

5: Oceanside pants and shorts – Blank Slate Patterns

Dit patroon, van Blank Slate Patterns, dezelfde ontwerpster als de Forsythe Trousers, heb ik al erg lang in m’n bezit. Misschien wel het eerste broekenpatroon dat ik ooit kocht. Ik heb werkelijk geen idee waarom ik het nog niet gemaakt heb. De ideale zomerbroek lijkt dit mij, al lijkt deze me net ietsje minder geschikt voor meer formele gelegenheden of voor naar het werk (al hangt dat af van het werk dat je doet natuurlijk 😉 ). Los, luchtig, lekker makkelijk, heel draagbaar, en de rechte en brede pijpen maken dat brede heupen minder zichtbaar zijn, althans, dat denk ik toch. Mijn mama heeft vroeger voor mij zo’n soort broek gemaakt, en ikzelf kocht er ooit eentje zoals deze en heb die, toen die zo afgedragen was dat ze overal kapot ging, zelf nagemaakt. Zo zalig zat dat. Ik denk dus dat deze hoog op mijn naailijstje zal komen te staan 🙂 Ze kan ook als short gemaakt worden, maar dat is voor mijn volgende patroonoverzichtje dan 😉

This pattern is from the same pattern designer and blogger as the Forsythe Trousers. I bought it ages ago and really have no idea why on earth I did not yet sew a pair for myself. It just seems like the perfect summery pants. Maybe not as suitable as some of the other patterns to wear for more formal occasions or for work (although that obviously depends on the kind of work you do!), but definitely more than good for vacations, home, patio sitting, shopping, or whatever you like to do. It is loose and breezy, confortable, has big pockets, and the long wide and straight legs take (in my opinion?) the attention away from the hips. My mom once has sewn me a pair like this, and I myself once bought a similar type of pants, that ended up so worn out that I copied it exactly and made myself 2 pairs just like it. Obviously with quite some flaws 😉 But just to say how much I liked wearing it! So I think this one will definitely be high on my sewing list! It can also be made as shorts, but that’s for the next post in this mini series about interesting patterns 😉

6: Birkin Flares – Baste and Gather

Deze broek, de Birkin Flares van Baste and Gather, leerde ik kennen toen ik het exemplaar van Belgische collega-blogster Sofie van de blog Momfieme zag. Man, dat zag er een zalige jeans uit! Want zeg nu zelf, een goeie jeans vinden, zo makkelijk is dat toch niet. Ik heb er intussen een paar en die zien meestal de binnenkant van de kast niet, ik draag ze voortdurend, althans tot het daar te warm voor wordt. Nu, zelf een jeans maken, van de idee alleen al kreeg ik rillingen. Zoiets zou ik wel nooit kunnen. Maar de uitleg op haar blog, en op die van anderen die ik daarna las, overtuigde me helemaal dat ik dat wel zou kunnen. In die mate dat ik kort daarna al het patroon gekocht heb. Helaas ging de overgang naar het maken zelf wat minder vlot 😉 Maar ik denk dat ik daar zo rond het einde van de zomer wel eens werk van ga maken. Het wordt waarschijnlijk geen snel-klaar projectje, maar volgens mij wel eentje dat me heel veel voldoening zou kunnen geven. Dit model is ook heel flatterend voor vrouwen met een peervormig figuur, zeker als je het in een iets donkerdere kleur maakt. Ik las nergens slechte reviews over dit patroon, dus als je overweegt om zelf eens een jeans te proberen, lijkt dit me een ideaal patroon.  Er is zelfs een sew-along om je door het hele naaiproces te gidsen!

The first time I saw these pants, the Birkin Flares from Baste and Gather, was when I stumbled upon this pair made by my fellow Belgian blogger Sofie from the blog Momfieme. I couldn’t believe how great and comfortable it looked, just like they were store-bought. I was really very interested, because really, how difficult is it to find a good pair of jeans?? I have a few of them now and they hardly see the inside of my closet. I wear them all the time, at least until the temperatures get too high to wear them anymore. The thing was that the whole idea of sewing my own pair of jeans really scared me so much! I was convinced I would never be able to pull that off. But the explanation on the blog and on other blogs I read, just totally got me confident enough to want to try these jeans and made me even buy the pattern already 😉 Unfortunately I did not get to making it ever since, but I think I will give it a try after summer. Probably not a quick project, but I’m sure it will be a rewarding one. I tend to think this is a flattering style for many women, also for pear-shaped figures like me, and even more when you’d pick a dark colored fabric. I’ve not found any bad reviews about the pattern, so maybe this is a jeans pattern to go for when you want to try your first? There even is a sew-along to guide you through the whole process!

7: Morgan Boyfriend Jeans – Closet Case Patterns

Dit patroon ontdekte ik tijdens mijn zoektocht naar patronen voor badpakken, waarover later ook nog een post zal verschijnen als alles goed gaat 😉 Ik moet eerlijk toegeven dat ik tot voor enkele maanden nog niet echt bekend was met de naam ‘boyfriend jeans’. Tot ik dus, enkele maanden geleden, zo eentje zag en kocht, en tot de vaststelling kwam dat dat dus een superflatterende en draagbare en makkelijke stijl is. Zowel met ‘platte’ zolen als met hakken gaat dit perfect. Met sneakers of zoiets heb je natuurlijk een andere stijl dan wanneer je er hakken onder draagt, maar het blijft mooi. Ik droeg vroeger eigenlijk altijd hakken, maar sinds ik hier full-time mama ben, komen de hakken hier eigenlijk bijzonder weinig uit de kast. Hakken om thuis rond te lopen, te koken, rond te fietsen, achter je kids te lopen, enz… Mja, er zijn handigere dingen. Maar veel van mijn kledij (rokken, jurken, broeken) was echt voorzien voor met mijn hakken gedragen te worden en vond ik helemaal niet zo mooi met platte schoenen. Welnu, dit soort model is daar dus het antwoord op! Als je rondkijkt op internet, kom je eigenlijk alleen maar leuke versies tegen, dus na een rondje googelen was ik echt verkocht! Ik kocht dan ook het papieren patroon tijdens een van mijn recente bezoekjes aan de Sew Stitch Shop, en heb ook al de geschikte stof ervoor (een pastel jeans van Cloud9, ook te vinden bij BelleLien!), want deze broek is ook best wel geschikt voor warmer weer.

Op de blog van Closet Case Patterns kan je bij de post over dit patroon lezen dat het patroon echt wel heel uitvoerig getest werd, en lees je meer details over het patroon, dat trouwens zowel in pdf als in een papieren versie verkrijgbaar is. Leuk om lezen is dat de ontwerpster daar haar maten weergeeft, en haar heupen zijn bv. dezelfde maat als de mijne, en toch ziet die er daar zo slank als iets uit. Goed voor het ego dus, zo’n broek! Ze geeft trouwens ook heel erg veel tips op haar blog, en verkoopt zelfs een uitvoerig ebook over hoe je een jeans echt helemaal perfect kan maken. In deze blogpost kan je tevens een hele reeks voorbeelden van dit patroon vinden, ook goed voor inspiratie! Hopelijk hier dus binnenkort ook een exemplaar 😉

I discovered this pattern during my search for bathing suits patterns, on which I will probably do a pattern post as well, later on.  I have to admit that I wasn’t really familiar with the concept ‘boyfriend jeans’ until a few months ago, when I bought my first pair here and discovered it is super flattering, confortable and easy too. It can be worn with either high heels or flat soles, and both are equally flattering and nice looking, although they both obviously give a different look to it. I myself was used to always wearing high heels before we moved here. I actually only had 1 pair of flat shoes I think. But being a fulltime mom, my high heels are almost never coming out of the closet. High heels to walk in your house, to cook, to run after your kids, to bike around, … well, just not that convenient… But the problem was/is that most of my clothing (skirts, pants, dresses, …) was meant to be worn with heels, and not all of these items are good-looking when wearing them with flat soles. So well, this pattern might just be the answer to that! If you scroll through the internet, you find lots of beautiful versions of these jeans, so I was happy to find the paper pattern a while ago in the Stitch Sew Shop. I even have the perfect fabric for it yet 😉

On the blog of Closet Case patterns, in the post about the release, you can read that the pattern really is thoroughly tested, and you can find more details about the pattern too, which is available both in pdf or in paper. I liked reading the designers comments on her measurements and the styles, seeing she has the same hip measurements as I do, while she looks so slim! So these jeans are kind of an ego boost too 😉 The designer also shares a lot of advice on her blog, and also sells an ebook on how to get the perfect jeans. This blog also has an overview of many versions, also good for inspiration. So hopefully soon a version of my own here 😉

8: Jacques Pantalon – Republique Du Chiffon

Deze broek heeft eenzelfde soort stijl als de boyfriend jeans, en lijkt me dus ook eentje dat zowel met platte schoenen als met hakken mooi is. Net wat ik zelf dus zoek. Deze broek is echter geen jeans patroon, al kan het zeker ook in een lichte jeans stof gemaakt worden, en is ook helemaal anders qua stijl natuurlijk. Ik vind die omgeplooide bovenkant, of hoe moet je dat noemen, echt heel tof en origineel, en de plooien in het voorpand maken het ook erg flatterend vind ik. Of dat idee heb ik dan toch. Die knoopjes is ook eens iets anders dan een rits of gewone gulp. Ik zag meerdere hele leuke exemplaren op internet, en heb echt zin om deze te maken. Ik denk niet dat het makkelijk is, maar hoop dat het wel zal loslopen. Het patroon kocht ik in elk geval ook in de Stitch Sew Shop, tja, daar hebben ze dus veel leuke patronen 😉 Nu nog tijd vinden om eraan te beginnen 😉

These pants have a similar style as the boyfriend jeans, and so, just as I mentioned there, will be a good match with both flat soles and high heels. Just what I am looking for. This pattern obviously isn’t a jeans pattern, although it can be made in lightweight jeans as well, and it also is a completely different style of pants. I really love the details that give it its unique look: the front with the collar-looking shape and the pleats. I think this gives it a very flattering look. And also the buttons give it such a different look.  I really like this design and bought the pattern when I discovered it in the Stitch Sew Shop (man, do they have a nice selection of patterns!!). The versions I found online all were very pretty. I do think it’s not very easy to make, but hope it will work out if I give it a try 😉 Now I still need to find time to make this one too 😉

9: The Nehalem Pant/skirt – Sew House 7

Tijdens al mijn googeltochtjes op zoek naar patronen, stootte ik op deze patroonontwerpster, een ware ontdekking voor mij! Deze broek vind ik erg bijzonder van snit. Het ziet er in mijn ogen complex uit, maar als je de post over de release ervan leest, waarin ook uitgelegd wordt hoe je dit best kan knopen, dan zie je dat het eigenlijk helemaal niet zo ingewikkeld is als het lijkt. Het is een wijd en los model, dat afhankelijk van de stofkeuze geschikt is voor veel verschillende gelegenheden. Toen ik de ontwerpster contacteerde i.v.m. het gebruik van haar foto’s, benadrukte ze wel dat de stofkeuze heel bepalend is voor de look. Dat zie je ook als je in diezelfde post over de release de verschillende voorbeelden ziet. Ikzelf hou het meest van de losse, soepelvallende stijl. Er is een zak op de zijkant, maar die kan je ook gewoon weglaten, en er zijn meerdere opties om een brede of minder brede band bovenaan te maken, e.d. Je kan ook een rok maken met dit patroon. Leuk om weten is dat het trouwens gebaseerd is op Thaise vissersbroeken, die makkelijk en comfortabel moeten zitten natuurlijk. Ik vind het altijd een extraatje als er zo een verhaal achter zit 😉

Ik denk dat deze broek zeker niet iets is waar iedereen mee staat, en het is er ongetwijfeld ook een die je ofwel heel leuk vindt, ofwel net niet. Maar ikzelf ben wel echt overtuigd. Het enige dat me echt tegenhoudt, is het enorme aantal te plakken pagina’s… Tenzij ik hier eens een copyshop zoek voor de A0 file te laten printen. Misschien moet ik daar echt eens werk van maken, want dit ziet er zo een heerlijk draagbare broek uit, die tegelijk heel apart is. Opnieuw eentje die karakter uitstraalt, vind ik persoonlijk…

During all my google searches for patterns, I also stumbled on this pattern designer, a great discovery for me! I was immediately interested by this pattern. The design looks really special and even complicated, but when you look at the blogpost about the release of the pattern (where you can also see how to knot it), you see it’s actually not that complicated as it seems. It’s a wide and loose model that can be quite versatile depending on the fabric you pick. When I contacted the designer to ask if I could use her pictures, she stressed that the fabric choice really defines the look of the pants. If you read the blogpost about the release, with the tester versions, you will understand what is meant with that as well. I myself like the loose, drapey style the best. The pattern features a pocket on the side, but I think you can easily leave that off of it. There are also multiple options for the waistband, and with this pattern you can either make a skirt or these pants. Nice to know is that the pattern is inspired by Thai fishermen, wearing comfortable, easy pants. I always think of it as a little extra when there’s such a story behind something…

I think these pants are not made for everyone, and probably it’s one of these styles that you either love or you don’t. But I do 🙂 The only thing that keeps me from buying it, is the amount of pages to print, tape and cut… It’s only available as pdf so far. But maybe I will have to start looking for a copy shop to get it printed on A0 size, because God, I think I could live in these pants if I made them! Definitely a pair of pants with both personality and comfort at the same time.

10: Guise Pants – Papercut Patterns

Het rijtje afsluiten doe ik met deze ontdekking van Papercut Patterns. Ik kende dat merk enkel van bij Georgette, maar zag het nu ook liggen bij de Sew Stitch Shop, en alleen al het design van deze patronen sprak me aan, zo een mooie verpakking! Deze broek heeft eenzelfde stijl als enkele van de broeken hierboven. Ik vind de plooitjes erg mooi vooraan, die geven de broek een ietwat aparte uitstraling. De broek komt relatief hoog in de taille, wat ervoor zorgt dat die geaccentueerd wordt, en kan in zo ongeveer alle soorten stof gemaakt worden, wat er zeker voor zorgt dat je een uniek stuk kan creëren en dat je met dit patroon veel verschillende looks kan maken. In een lichte stof lijkt dit me ook heel geschikt als zomerse broek. Ik weet niet helemaal zeker of het een echt flatterend model is voor peervormige figuren zoals ik, maar durf te denken van wel, en aangezien ik het patroon ook gekocht heb (die Stitch Sew Shop is verdorie niet goed voor mijn portemonnee… online weerstaan aan patronen is makkelijker dan in de winkel!) ga ik het zeker vroeg of laat eens uitproberen 😉

Last (but not least) there is this pattern, by Papercut Patterns. I knew this pattern designer from a Belgian webshop, but saw the paper patterns in the Sew Stitch Shop and already fell in love with the package on its own 😉 This pants has a similar style as some of the above mentioned. I like the pleats in the front, and the higher waist, that gets to be highlighted that way, something that I tend to like. These pants can be made in almost any kind of fabric, which makes this a versatile pattern, giving you the chance to create many different styles with only one pattern. If made in a lightweigth fabric, it will definitely be summerproof as well. I’m not entirely sure it is flattering for pear-shaped figures such as me, but I dare to think it is. And since I have also purchased this pattern (that Sew Stitch Shop is definitely the enemy of my wallet… resisting to buy patterns is so much harder in a real shop than it is online ;-)) I will definitely try it out one day 🙂

Benieuwd hoeveel mensen dit helemaal gelezen hebben… Het was in elk geval het bericht waar ik het langst aan gezeten heb ooit, dus ik hoop dat er toch een beetje interesse was 🙂 Ik plan eenzelfde soort bericht over shorts, en ook over badpakken/lingerie. Ik hoop stiekem dat ik beide binnen een redelijke termijn kan afwerken, maar aangezien ik zo lang aan dit ene bericht ben bezig geweest, durf ik niks beloven! Wil je zeker niks missen, dan kan je dus best mijn blog volgen op de een of andere manier 🙂 (bloglovin, via email, wordpress, …)

Dit is louter mijn mening en ik heb geen aandelen of zo bij een van al deze patroonontwerpers 😉 Ik ben wel een bewonderaar van het werk dat al deze mensen doen, dus kan alleen maar zeggen: allen daarheen en kopen maar 😉 In dat kader kan ik je trouwens ook deze blogpost aanraden, over waarom het de moeite is om patronen te kopen, enz.

P.P.P.S. Nog interessante lectuur over de opbouw van patronen vond ik in deze blogpost, waarin de oude en de nieuwe versie van de Sorbetto Top worden vergeleken. De schrijfster van de blog, Allie, doet daar ook een ietwat technische, maar heel leesbare uitleg over de lichaamstypes waarop patroonontwerpers hun patronen opbouwen. Een aanrader!

These days I seem to prefer buying separate paper or pdf patterns over magazines and things like that. They are often my first picks when I want to make something, instead of going through all my magazines. My time is limited, and I don’t like it when I can not entirely be sure if the size will be good, if a pattern is true to size, and so on. I tend to think I can trust the separate patterns (pdf or paper) better on that, I am more confident about the fit of it. I did get the opportunity to test some patterns and that way I learned how much work a designer puts into one pattern, and how important it is to a designer to have a good and reliable product. I’m not saying that’s not the case for designers at magazines, absolutely not! But I just don’t think that all the patterns of the magazines I have (so far only dutch magazines and ottobre magazines), are so thoroughly tested. I also like the style of some designers so much that I enjoy buying from them and supporting their work that way.

Something that I find particularly difficult, is finding a good pair of pants. whenever I want to buy one, I mostly end up being frustrated because I can’t find what I am looking for, or couldn’t find a pair that flattered me, or whatever. Always something. Making my own pair of pants however, also seemed such a challenge that I never actually dared to try it. Untill my sew challenge lately, although that was only partly a success 😉 So I have been looking around lately, searching patterns for pants that would both be flattering to my figure, being a pear-shaped body type, and stylish at the same time. And another thing is that they need to be comfortable and easy to wear. Not easy, but I did manage to find some very interesting ones. Some of them I even bought yet, but I did not yet make any of them.

Because I am pretty sure I’m not the only one with this ‘pants problem’, I decided to share my list of patterns for pants here on my blog, explaining what I like about them and showing some examples. It’s however very important to know that these are no reviews, as I did not yet make any of these patterns yet! I am also absolutely sure that I am doing a lot of injustice to many other pattern designers and patterns by not including them here, but well, that’s just how it goes, no? But… I am very much interested in getting to know other patterns as well, so please, feel free to mention them in a comment! Maybe that can be useful for anyone who would read this later on!

So above, in the dutch section of this post, you can find the picture with 10 patterns I picked, in random order!! I chose to write the English explanation underneath the picture itself, right after the dutch explanation. I tend to think it is nicer to read and see pictures together, instead of having to scroll back to know which pattern I am talking about. I realize this might look a bit messy, but hope it still is ok like that.

This is a  very long post and it is the post I have worked on the longest time ever. So I do hope people find some inspiration in it. I am planning on making a list of shorts patterns as well, and also plan a post about bathing suits/lingerie. I can’t tell when these posts will be ready, as I worked much longer on this one than I had anticipated… But hopefully soon.
